5Essentials Survey
Every year we conduct the 5Essentials survey to help us gather feedback and improve. The feedback we receive from all perspectives helps us identify areas we are doing well in and areas we can improve with the overall goal of providing the best environment and educational system to help all students succeed as learners and as people.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey for students and teachers will be conducted January 24, 2023 through March 31, 2023 and we will carve out time in the day for students to complete the survey. The Parent Survey Supplement will be conducted during that same timeframe. To take the survey please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey to begin.
Even though we are in Will County, our school district county is Kendall. Please type Kendall County when asked what County we are in. This will then allow you to type in Bednarcik Junior High and choose that as our school.

NEED TO KNOW ITEMS....
Going Home on a Different Bus
At times, students may need to ride a bus home with another student for after school care. The seating on our buses is tight, but we want to help this out as much as possible. If your child needs to ride a route home other than their own, please do the following ahead of time:
- Both families (student going home on another bus and student taking the student home) provide a note to our Student Services office.
- The note must include the names of both students, the date, and a parent/guardian signature.
These notes need to be brought to the office the morning of the alternate route. We will then provide a note for the students to show the bus driver at the end of the day. Students WILL NOT be able to ride alternate bus routes without showing the correct notes to the bus driver.
Bulldogs do great things!
We want to celebrate all you do.

ENGAGING STUDENTS - Policy on cell phones & personal gaming systems
Bednarcik is continuing with our building cell phone and electronic device usage expectations for students. Students will be able to access and use their phone once they advocate for their need to a staff member. When students do this, staff will work with the kids to determine the best time to use their phone. This could be used for texting parents and other communication needs.
To help with this, we ask that parents and families do what they can to avoid texting students throughout the day. This provides constant distractions for kids and takes their attention away from the learning taking place throughout the day.
All students will have Chromebooks with them throughout their day and email would be a great form of communication if/when needed.
This doesn’t mean that students are not allowed to bring their phones to school. The expressed language in the student handbook states that students are to have their cellphones turned off and out of sight during these times except as approved by building administration, which is the same expectation from the 2022-23 school year. This will continue, and include the lunchroom as an area that students will need the permission to use their cell phones.
If you have questions, please reach out to Bednarcik Administration. Our number is 630-636-2500.
