I wanted to officially welcome you back to school for the 2020-2021 school year. While we are not returning in person, we are here for you and are excited to have your children in our virtual classrooms.

While we start school on September 4, it is important our families know we are here for you! We miss you all, and can't wait to have you back. As a school, first and foremost, we hope that your family is safe and connected during these uncertain times. While some things remain unknown in our society currently, one thing our community can be sure of is our commitment to providing a quality education for your child!


We are excited to launch the improved continuous learning 2.0! Our young learners will be challenged and supported by our teachers and staff. We will commit to providing social emotional support for students to reconnect, help students readjust, and provide reassurance for our young learners. One of the ways we will help support this, is each teacher will begin class with a quick a morning meeting to check in with each student daily, build a strong learning community, and prepare students for their daily learning.


As we prepare for the school year, we would LOVE to get to know you and your child. We will be conducting Virtual Parent Connect meetings. Not only will you have some time to get to know each other, but you will also learn about your new virtual classroom, how your teacher will communicate weekly on learning, and how you can stay connected with your child's teacher. Your child's teacher will be contacting you via phone, or mail and you will be able to sign up for a ZOOM meeting with your child's teacher on Tuesday, September 1, Wednesday September 2, or Thursday September 3. Please sign up for ZOOM or Telephone meetings with your child's teacher.

As part of the Parent Connect meetings, teachers will be communicating their expectations for learning, and daily schedules aligned to the K-5 School Day Schedule.

As we embark on this journey together, your voice will forever remain a driving force in the decisions we make. This year I will be seeking Tapteal community voice, so that we can hear you, respond to needs and sustain a strengthened partnership!

Included in this letter is very important information. Please read the weekly Principal Newsletters each week, as they will be sent out by email, and class dojo.

**Students who transferred from Tapteal to Richland Virtual School will pick up materials on 12:30-2:30

Student learning materials will be distributed to families between September 1st and 3rd.

Please drive up to the building, and remain in your vehicle. We ask that you wear a mask. Please be prepared to let us know your child(ren)’s name(s), grade level, and teacher(s) name, to ensure efficient distribution of materials. If your child has not previously checked out a chromebook, and you need one now, please let us know here as well. We will have chromebook checkout available on the same day.

These materials are essential for your student to have with them while learning online. Your child's teacher will be following a detailed learning plan, and he/she will need quick access to these materials. They will receive math manipulatives (pattern blocks, cubes, etc) specially chosen for each grade level. They will also receive their math workbook and reading workbook. Additionally, they will get markers/crayons/pencils/glue sticks specially chosen by each grade level that will match what your child will need for their learning.

We encourage families to find an At Home Student Learning Station for each of their children, and have these materials accessible, as teachers will have students using the materials weekly.


If you are new to our building, or your child does not have an RSD issued Chromebook, we will check one out to you – one for each student! Please let the one of the staff members know when you come to your materials pick up time. Please be prepared to let us know your child’s name, grade level, and teacher name to ensure efficient distribution of the Chromebooks and charger chords.

Last year, parent feedback indicated our families would benefit from having a shared, consistent Learning Management System K-5, a common schedule, and more frequent communication on learning.

Over the course of the week, students will engage in whole group, small group, and independent work and receive ongoing feedback communicating progress toward learning standards. Instructional resources will include a combination of district adopted instructional materials, consumable student materials, books, manipulatives, and newly purchased supplemental online instructional resources (DreamBox and NewsELA). Students will be in specials starting September 8th (Art, Music, PE, Library) during the afternoons. Our librarian will be putting together a curbside pick up plan to check out books that you can take home to read!

Each week, teachers will be communicating with students and families regarding student learning. As partners in your child's education, we want to make sure families encourage, provide additional support, and have conversations with your child regarding their learning. Please refer to the basic daily school schedule, and the specialist schedule below.

The morning will be directed by your child's classroom teacher, and the afternoon will be directed by your child's specialist teacher. The specialists, including our counselors, will begin their LIVE zoom session at 12:30 on a rotating grade level schedule.

At - Home Student Learning Station

Having a designated workspace for your child is very important during distance learning.

Here are the basics for a great student workspace :

1. Quiet Area

2. Appropriate space to move, access work materials, and all materials sent home from teachers

3. Build investment by having them decorate it :)


Our school counselors will be included in our specialist rotation. We believe it's important to provide additional social emotional learning in our weekly schedule. Our counselors will be available for student check ins, small groups, and student referrals. Parents, if you would like to refer an issue regarding your child, you may do so by visiting the counselor page here.

Service sites for meals and times at ANY elementar or middle school site, each Friday, beginning September 4th.

Details for Meal pick up:

  • Breakfast and lunch for five school days (10 meals total)
  • Picked up on Fridays.
  • ALL school meals are FREE!
  • If a family has students at multiple RSD sites, they can pick up for everyone at one site
  • Students do not have to be present; parents may pick up for them with student ID card. We can look up a name if we must, but it will slow the process.
  • Each enrolled student is allowed one breakfast and one lunch per school day only


We are very fortunate and grateful to announce Mrs. Neitzel our Librarian will begin Weekly Curbside Library Book Pick Up.


Students can place holds for specific titles online in Destiny or make a more general request in a Google Form. The form can be found on Destiny, in Teacher Google Classrooms and within Tapteal’s Hawk Hub for Online Learning for Families.

Students will be encouraged to give multiple preferences so the best possible book student pairings can be made. Students will be allowed to check out up to five books if their account is current.


Requests must be made by Wednesday for Friday pick up.

On Friday morning books are brought to the drive through Curbside Library 9:30-12:00.

When a family approaches the box to drop off their books their new books are placed on the pick up table. Overdue slips for any books not returned the previous week will be attached to the stack of books.

  • Students not able to pick up their books on Fridays may call the library Monday-Wednesday from 9:00-2:00. Books can be pulled and delivered curbside with ten minutes notice.
  • Earlier and later pick-up times can be scheduled on request.

Big picture


I am sad to announce we are not moving to our new building next year. We will remain in the current building until construction of the New Tapteal is complete. I know this is not easy to hear, but perhaps we can understand given the current circumstances. We will move into the new building when the time is right, and it will be an AWESOME experience for all. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and for your continued commitment to Tapteal.
