Welcome back to school! We look forward to seeing both new and returning students in the library.
A few weeks ago, Krista Jacobson put on a workshop on Mendeley, a citation management tool. There has been a lot of great feedback from people who attended the session and are starting to use it. If you're interested in using Mendeley to make your life easier, check out the information below.
We've included our annual reminder about study rooms in the library. This is especially important during Chiro Boards, Midterms and Finals.
The library has purchased "the Souza book"...a.k.a. Differential Diagnosis and Management for the Chiropractor in ebook form. Please look below to find out how to access it.
We have two new displays this month. One is in honor of Banned Books Week. What would happen if the American Medical Association of 50 years ago got to decide what information should be available to people about their health care choices? We also have a new Archives Display looking back at how MN Chiro Colleges have advertised through the years.
Finally, Films On Demand has provided us with a free trial of their Allied Health and Health and Medicine video collections. Please take a moment to check out the collection and provide us with feedback.

1) You can Google Mendeley for yourself. There are a lot of tutorials available online.
Or
2) You can click on the file below this description. A PowerPoint of the presentation I gave is available. (This works in Chrome & Internet Explorer. For some reason, it is not recognized in Firefox.)
3) This information will always be available in the Library Information Moodle in the Writing Help/Citation Help section.
Or you can make an appointment with the Public Services Librarian kjacobson@nwhealth.edu.
Study Rooms
Just a reminder...
Even though we don't have midterms or finals right now, there is a group of students studying for their boards this week so please be mindful of them.
New Whiteboard
We'll try to keep them out in the open by the information desk but you may also see them left in study rooms. Feel free to use them anywhere you'd like in the library.

*A small note on ebooks: You might wonder why we don't buy all the textbooks in ebook format. The library will continue to explore purchasing ebook options when usage and availability make it possible; however, unlike print books, ebooks sold to libraries have different requirements than ebooks sold to individuals. In fact, there are times when a publisher sells ebooks to individuals but does not offer them to libraries. If only we could just buy them from Amazon....
Banned Books Week
In celebration of Banned Books Week, September 24-30th, library staff members consider books invaluable to the chiropractic, massage therapy, acupuncture and Chinese medicine practices that might have been banned by Western medicine proponents. Come to the library to see a display of books that might have been challenged as being offensive or considered to be “junk science. ”

Archives
From 1899 through today, approximately 36 schools of chiropractic have been advertised in Minnesota. Four were advertised in 1899-1903, 18 in the boom years of 1904-1907, and 14 in 1908-1941, including Northwestern College of Chiropractic. Many of the early “schools” were individual chiropractors seeking students to teach in their offices, and many schools cannot be proven to have ever had students. This exhibition displays ads from just a few schools.
For more information on the history of chiropractic schools in Minnesota, see https://nwhsulib.wixsite.com/teachingchiroinmn, created by NWHSU librarian Monica Howell and based on research conducted by Dr. John Wolfe, Jr., and Monica in 2016.
