It's Been a Great Week at Hoover!

Mark your calendars now for a great fine arts night program! All students will be performing with their classes. In addition to a great music program, students art work will be on display throughout the building, families can also purchase books and supplies at our book fair.

In our efforts to communicate with parents in a more timely manner, office communications, including DISCIPLINE REPORTS, TEST SCORES, and REPORT CARDS will be emailed to the email address listed in Power School. Emailing these reports will not only allow us to get them to parents in a more timely manner, but also allow us to be more environmentally friendly and fiscally responsible. If you need to update your email address at any time, you can do so on the school website under the FOR PARENTS link.

The second semester means it's time to start thinking about state assessments. The following windows have been set for elementary state assessments:

IREAD March 16-April 3, (3rd graders, Parents of any 4th or 5th graders who need to take IREAD will be contacted by the school)

ILEARN April 20-May 15 (Grades 3-8)

4th Grade will assess April 20-24

5th Grade will assess April 27-May 1

*I AM April 6-May 15 (Only administered to Special Education students who have this alternative state assessment identified in their individual education plans.)

Please schedule any appointments outside of these windows, or after 12:30 PM on testing days.

Notes from the Nurse

February is National Dental Health Month! Healthy habits begin at home so make sure dental health is part of your daily routine:

  1. Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste. Drinking water after you eat can help get food particles out of your teeth.

  2. Floss every day, older children should know how to floss, but it is always good for parents to help.

  3. Limit sticky and sugary snacks.

  4. See the dentist for routine checkups and cleanings.

  5. While playing sports, wear a mouth guard for protection.

  6. Change your toothbrush regularly, and especially after you have been ill.

We are fortunate to have the Mobile Dentist come to our school twice a year! They will be back to visit in May, be on the lookout after Spring Break for more information.
