Principal's Message
Hello Falcon Families,
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the Falcon Moms out there! Thank you so much for all of the kind messages, pictures, and shoutouts for Staff Appreciation Week. All of us Falcons really appreciate the kindness from this amazing community. I feel very fortunate to work at Oak Valley and I am grateful to represent this learning community.
Progress reports will be posted this week. Due to the school closure and distance learning, grades will look different. For the progress report, all students will see an IP for “In Progress” for all core classes. Students will not see a grade for Language Arts Workshop, Encore, 6th Grade Elective Wheel, Cross Age Tutoring, Teacher Assistant, Office Assistant, or other similar courses. All students will also be given one of three comments under their IP:
- Student consistently engages in distance learning.
- Student inconsistently engages in distance learning.
- Student has not engaged in distance learning.
We will not be printing and distributing progress reports at this time. Students and parents are able to access progress reports online from the Synergy Student or Parent Portal by navigating to "Report Card," then selecting the link for our most recent progress report. Progress reports can also be located in the "Documents" area at the bottom of the navigation bar.
I am very impressed by the work our Falcon students have been doing during this time of distance learning. I know it is difficult for many students to learn this way. My own kids have been frustrated and confused at times. We are asking our students to do their best. The learning in my own house has had the added challenge of limited computers, spotty WiFi, and impatient kids! Many of you are facing similar challenges and much more. Our teachers and all staff are here for your students. Please encourage your student to reach out if there is something they need. We miss them so much and want to see them succeed!
This week all middle school principals are working on a common system and timeline for families to be able to access many of the items students still have on campus (PE Lockers, artwork, medications, instruments, etc.) as well as drop off any items that need to be returned to campus (registration documents, textbooks, etc). I will be communicating our plan soon. Stay tuned for more information.
I would like to congratulate our CyberPatriot Team and Coach Paul for their amazing performance at this year’s Virtual National Championships. Our Oak Valley Falcons did an amazing job and so did our other community schools, Design 39 and Del Norte High School. Out of 1,245 Middle School Division teams and 3,631 Open (High School) Division teams, the schools in our community took First Place and Runner-Up in the Open Division and First Place, Runner-Up and Third place in the Middle School Division! We now have 5 National Champion teams in 5 years!
That is a huge achievement for our 3 schools. Congratulations to all of our students and especially our Falcon Teams CyberAegis Electron and CyberAegis Alpha!!
