School / Family Newsletter - May/June 2022

Principal's Message

Families of Venetia Valley,

This month we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, Mental Health Awareness Month, and Asian American / Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Our teachers and counselors are doing an amazing job at immersing our students in these topics. We invite you to join us! Simply contact your child's teacher and inquire how you can be of assistance or volunteer with our Family Center to help with any of the upcoming events designed to celebrate these topics.

There are many wonderful things that are happening this month at Venetia Valley, all of which you will learn about as you continue reading through this newsletter! As always, we thank you for your continued support as we navigate this very challenging year while emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is with great regret that we inform you our Venetia Valley Carnival has been cancelled. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are unable to proceed with our event. The HeadsUp Carnival that is usually scheduled for the fall of each year was scheduled in the spring this year and that threw us all for a loop. We found it difficult to plan for two major events simultaneously. In addition, the construction of our field limits the space we have available to ensure a safe and smooth event. We appreciate everyone for understanding the decision we had to make. We are excited to begin planning for next year's carnival, early in the year!

Thank you,

VV PTA & Mr. Q.

Dual Language Immersion Program Update

We are excited to announce that our DLI program is all set to begin in August for the 2022-23 School Year! Families have been provided with acceptance notifications and most have been received by the enrollment office. Additionally, we are interested in learning from our families who may be in need of after-school care for their children. Please take a moment to fill out this SURVEY that will help us determine those needs as we are working on a plan to have after-care for our students that don't traditionally qualify for the after-school program.

In the coming weeks, we will be providing you with an update regarding TK/Kindergarten Orientation. We look forward to seeing you very soon! If you have any questions regarding our Dual Language Immersion program, please do not hesitate to reach out to Principal Quesada or Asst. Principal Menchavez. Emails are: or

Mark Your Calendars 8th Grade Families!

Our 8th grade end of year activities are coming up soon! Our middle school team and family center staff have been working hard to create a memorable experience to conclude the 8th grade year at Venetia Valley. For many of your children, 8th grade is their final year at the school where they began their educational career in kindergarten. This is what makes Venetia Valley such a special place because our students have the opportunity to "grow up" in the same school from TK or kindergarten all the way through to 8th grade. Just amazing!

Please note the following events are scheduled to occur later this month and in early June:

  • 8th Grade Field Trip - Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo on Tuesday, 5/31
  • 8th Grade "Dinner Dance" at Venetia Valley's new MPR on Friday, 6/3 from 6 - 8:30 PM
  • 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony at Venetia Valley on Wednesday, 6/8 at 9:30 AM

Specific details for each event are forthcoming!

Athletic Field Construction Update

The roaring of the large dump trucks is finally over! Thank you to all of our families and neighbors for being super patient and flexible as we had major traffic issues when the large dump trucks were hauling dirt onto the construction project. That part of the work is finally done and now our traffic should be back to normal.

The project itself is on schedule and we are excited to have an all new athletic field when we begin the 2022-23 SY!

Food for Thought (for our middle grade families)...

Middle grade families,

As the principal, we frequently receive posts from various organizations that share insightful information regarding current trends in education. This one article in particular caught my attention because I too notice how students love their technology and connecting online can and is a very dangerous place for them. For that reason alone, I thought I'd share it with you. Thanks for taking a moment to check out the linked article below.
