PCMS WEEKLY UPDATE

From all of us here at PCMS, we want to thank our fantastic Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) for their treats and gifts of appreciation this past week during Teacher Appreciation Week. We are extremely grateful for the wonderful and supportive community in which we serve. It just goes to show that we're all Pirates working together for the same outcome…giving our kids the very best we have to give. The #PCMSproud tradition shines through! THANK YOU again!!!

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL - TUESDAY, MAY 17th

For grades K-8 only, the Board of Education voted that the official last day of school will be Tuesday, May 17, 2016 and will be a FULL DAY OF SCHOOL. We will be serving our normal scheduled menu items that day, with a choice between: Super Nachos, Chicken & Cheese Quesadilla, Garden Fresh Salad Bar, or Chicken Sandwich Bar.

END OF YEAR MEAL ACCOUNTS (Per communication from Dr. Gardner, Superintendent)

Negative Meal Notifications

We will be notifying parents of students who have negative meal account balances. If your child has a negative balance, please clear the funds due by sending cash or a check to school with your student. You may also add funds to your student's meal account online through Parent Portal in SISK12. If it is found that a student has a negative meal balance at the end of the school year, parents will be contacted by school staff regarding the negative balance. If the negative meal balance is not resolved after multiple attempts, the district will turn over the unpaid meal charges to a collection agency, per board policy.

***Under no circumstances will a student be denied a lunch as a result of insufficient funds. However, the district appreciates your cooperation in ensuring that your student maintains a positive meal account balance at all times.

Meal Account Balances at Year End

Meal account balances stay with each student as they move between PCRIII schools, grades, or classrooms. Year-end balances roll forward into the next school year. Any funds on account at the end of this school year will be available to students when the 2016-17 school year begins in August.

NOTES FROM THE NURSE

School Medication Pick Up

If you brought in any medication for your son or daughter during the school year, it needs to be picked up by a parent before school dismisses for the summer. All unclaimed medicine will be disposed of after May 17th. Please contact Nurse Kobush with any questions.

Immunizations Required for Current 7th Graders

If your child is entering 8th Grade next year, we would like to emphasize how important it is for you to check your child’s immunization record to make sure he/she has the required immunizations. Proof of having the Tdap booster and Meningococcal vaccine must be provided BEFORE students will be able to obtain their 8th GRADE schedule at Enrollment in August, and they will be excluded from attending school until proof is provided. This is an exciting time for the kids, and the last thing they want at Enrollment is to be told they cannot get their schedule. NOTE FROM THE SOCIAL WORKER

It’s never too soon to register for the Platte County Back To School Fair ~ 2016-17! Families must pre-register in order to attend. You may register at http://www.plattecountybacktoschoolfair.org. Sports physicals and well child physicals will be available at this event. Please contact your school social worker, Lisa Bean at beanl@platteco.k12.mo.us if you have questions.

END OF YEAR ENROLLMENT PAPERWORK

If you have not yet updated your enrollment paperwork for the 2016-17 school year, please do so as soon as possible. We would like to have the most accurate information on each child heading into next school year. If you are moving out of our school district, please write “MOVING” on the paperwork and send it back with your child. If you have lost your paperwork or did not receive it in the mail, please call the school office at 816-858-2036, so we can get the forms to you.

2016-17 ENROLLMENT DAY INFORMATION

Believe it or not, it’s already time to mark your calendar for the upcoming dates for the 2016-17 school year!

  • 6th Grade ~ Tuesday, August 9th ~ 1:00-6:00 pm

  • 7th Grade ~ Wednesday, August 10th ~ 1:00-6:00 pm

  • 8th Grade ~ Thursday, August 11th ~ 1:00-6:00 pm

Enrollment Day is when students will:

  • Show proof of immunizations (as needed)

  • Provide proof of residency (if not already provided according to these guidelines)

  • Pick up student class schedule (if immunizations up to date and proof of residency provided)

  • Get school picture taken

  • Get ID card

  • Put supplies in locker (optional)

  • Provide medications to the school nurse, as necessary

  • Put money in lunch account (optional)

Please mark these dates on your calendar. We would like as many students as possible to attend PCMS Enrollment Day!

BE INVOLVED ~ CLUB NIGHT! (CURRENT 8TH GRADERS)

Future freshmen...do you want to be INVOLVED in high school and get the best experience you can get? If so, plan to attend Club Night at the Platte County High School next week Wednesday, May 11th from 6-7pm.

  • Representatives from Sports, Clubs, and Organizations will be available to provide information about programs for the 2016-17 school year.

  • Find out what extracurricular activities are offered.

  • Get all of your questions answered.

8th Grade - JV Cheer Tryouts

Tryout CLINICS for the PCHS Junior Varsity cheer squad will be Monday, May 9 through Wed, May 11 from 5:30-7pm. Tryouts will be Thurs, May 12 beginning around 4pm.
