VirtCon Viewing Party- CANCELLED

Saturday, April 25th, 9am-3pm

DUE TO SCHEDULING CONFLICTS THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

During the VirtCon Viewing Party we will be combining the virtual sessions with conversations, reflections and presentations by the experts throughout the district! For example, we will watch one of the keynotes, and then turn the projector off to share among the group. Afterwards, we will rejoin the virtual session that aligns with the interests of our schools. We will keep the day lively and fun through collaborative opportunities, discussions, providing lunch and plenty of snacks!

Positive Feedback as a Result of Professional Development

Leaders within KCS met with the Discovery Education Team. We discussed the results of the Digital Teacher Leader professional development delivered during the 2014-15 school year and the plan for ongoing professional development in the coming years. The literacy facilitator and at least one other teacher from each school are part of the Digital Teacher Leader Academy.

Check out this link to the entire presentation. The highlights include:

  • We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the PD sessions.
  • KCS is on track to double our amount of DE usage from previous years, excluding logins for benchmarking purposes.
  • The DE usage is much more diversified than it has been in the past. Historically DE streaming has been the primary resource used. Now we use many more resources including boards, quizzes, activities, assignments and brain games.

The DEN Star Network is a global community of education professionals that are passionate about transforming the learning experience with digital media, the Discovery Educator Network (DEN) connects members across town and around the world through social media, virtual conferences and in-person events — fostering valuable networking, idea-sharing and inspiration.

If you are passionate about transforming learning experiences with digital media, sharing resources, collaborating, and networking we invite you to take the next step in the DEN. Become a STAR Discovery Educator. It's easy. Just remember STAR:

S – Share something you've learned about using Discovery Education resources with
your colleagues. You are ALREADY doing this. You share ideas with your collegues regarding the use of Discovery Ed benchmarks, probes, videos, boards etc. during meetings, lunch or conversations in the hallways.

T – Teach your colleagues about this idea or strategy. This can be any "event" in which you share ideas with 3 or more people.

A – Assist your colleagues as they implement this idea or strategy

R – Report what you've done. This is as easy as answering a few simple questions through the DE website.

Login to Discovery Education using your teacher log in and start your application. It's easy, fun, and right at your finger tips. Once you become a DEN Star member you will receive free goodies, have access to some premium resources and get early releases of new Discovery Education tools.

There will be special deliveries to DEN Star teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4-8) so don't delay!

End of Year Testing Schedule

A comprehensive list and descriptions of all of the state tests that we administer can be found here. For a complete schedule of KCS end of the year testing click here. General Statute §115C-174.12(a)(4) states that all annual assessments of student achievement and all final exams for courses shall be administered within the final 10 instructional days of the school year for year-long courses and within the final five instructional days of the semester for semester courses. KCS, and most other districts in the state, are taking advantage of a special waiver that allows us to extend EOC testing to the final 10 days of the semester.
