Hands-on Learning Activities for Middle School Math
Designed for grades 6-8 regular/special education mathematics teachers and instructional coaches, this workshop will get participants engaged in mathematics with a hands-on approach. Aligned to the standards, the activities can be taken back to the classroom and put into practice. Carolyn Cutts of ETA Hand2Mind will provide manipulatives to use during the session. Desmos: A Dynamic and Dazzling Tool
Desmos is a powerful tool for exploration and understanding. It’s a free online graphing calculator and so much more. Teachers everywhere are building their own classroom lessons with this tool – and making the lessons openly available. The session is designed for high school regular/special education mathematics teachers and instructional coaches to become familiar with Desmos and to explore ways it can make math come alive for students. Participants will need to bring their Chromebooks to the session. (Newnan High, 4-5 p.m.) No registration required.
