Garden Road Parent Weekly #20
A Leader In Me School - 12/16/22
On behalf of our entire school staff, I want to wish you and your family a lovely winter break! We hope these next two weeks are relaxing, refreshing, and full of joy!
Thank you parents for the amazing class parties and Variety Show participation. We had 3 afternoons of great acts and I know we cannot wait to see the final show.
Thank you so much to Vani Pemble and her Variety Show team! This year's show is going to be out of this world!
Thank you to Liz Wood and her team for organizing the Dudley's fundraiser.
Thank you to Melanie Moniz for organizing and all the parents who supported the Garden Road Giving Tree! We are so thankful for your generosity.
We are so proud of what the kids have accomplished the first half of this school year. Our Leader in Me implementation is going strong! Here are some of our top Leader in Me benchmarks we've met this year:
- Student led conferences in 3-5th grade
- Student Leadership Team created and meeting weekly
- Student led Friday Flag, daily announcements, and weekly "call outs" to families
- Community service opportunities for 4th-5th graders
- Big and little buddy classes - for tech integration, arts, and reading
- 2 student presentations in our staff meetings
- 2 schoolwide No Place for Hate Lessons facilitated
- All classes implementing 7 Habits lessons, explicitly and integrated in content areas
- All classes receiving Leadership inspired lessons from our Counseling Department
Our staff is currently working on an Annual Implementation Calendar that will integrate all of our initiatives to support culture, academics, and leadership in service to our mission:

Tips for Library Success
- Classes visit the library on the same day each week. Ask your child what day their class visits.
- All books are checked out for one week at a time.
- If your child needs more time to finish a book, they must bring the book to school and ask to renew it.
- Help your child develop strategies to return or renew their books on time, such as placing books in their backpack the night before their visit.
- Encourage your child to return their books as soon as they’re done with them, even if it’s not library day yet.
- Help your child find a safe place at your house so books don’t get lost or damaged by siblings or pets.
- Separate school library books from public library books so you can return everything to the correct place. All school library books have a “Garden Road Elementary” barcode on the back cover.
- Remind your child not to put water bottles inside their backpack if they also contain a library or textbooks. Books absorb water like a sponge and wet books grow mold overnight!
- Parents are responsible for paying fines for loss or damage to library items.
