Charleroi Alumni Gives Back
A former Charleroi graduate, Craig Carson 1975 (pictured above), personally visited our campus on Friday October21, 2017. He toured the Fine Arts departments. Craig graciously donated $2000 to our Choir and Marching Band. Specifically, he requested that $500 each be donated to the Middle and High School Choir and $1000 towards the Cougar Marching Band. This marks the 3rd consecutive year he has donated to our fine arts programs. Attached is a picture of Mr. Carson with Ms. Piecknick and Dr. Mason.
Craig is a retired music instructor from Ohio that shared his story of how a Charleroi education profoundly impacted his life.
The donation has been deposited into the Charleroi Area Education Foundation. Ms. Piecknick and Mrs. Staranko will coordinate the purchasing for their departments.
Annual Veterans Day Celebration Wednesday, November 8, 2017 @ 9:30 AM
Join us as we say “Thank You” to the men and women who proudly served our country! The program will feature many students in the Charleroi Area School District including the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts. Music selections will be provided by the Charleroi High School Choir, Charleroi Middle School Choir, Charleroi Elementary Choir, and the Charleroi Ceremonial Band. The focus of the program is about honor and sacrifice and what these words mean to a Veteran of the armed forces. We will also learn about the rich history of the Pledge of Allegiance and cap it off with a beautiful musical arrangement of the Pledge of Allegiance performed by our high school choir, middle school choir, and ceremonial band.
Veterans can RSVP for a free breakfast by emailing Mark Killinger markkillinger@charleroisd.org or calling the Elementary Center office 724-483-5554. The breakfast will take place in the Alumni Room which overlooks our stadium and the beautiful landscape of the Mon Valley. Transportation from the Alumni Room to the gymnasium will be provided by the school district and there will be special seating for the veterans on the floor of the gymnasium.
Words cannot express how much we as a school district honor and respect our Veterans, but we will do our best to show our appreciation on Wednesday November 8th!
Coats for Kids
Dear Charleroi Area School Board Members and Learning Community,
On behalf of Model Cleaners and the Salvation Army of Western Pennsylvania, I would like to thank you for your support and participation in the 2017 second annual “Coats for Kids” coat drive.
The program this year will run from November 6th to December 15th. In order for your school district to participate, we simply ask you to communicate the program to your students, faculty and administrators and Model Cleaners and the Salvation Army will do the rest.
Model Cleaners will provide blue collection bins for all schools on Wednesday, November 1st. Model representatives will then count and collect the coats from participating schools on Friday of each week during the contest and post the results on Model Cleaner's Facebook Page.
This year we have eight area schools involved in the competition which are North Allegheny, Seneca Valley, Mars, Seton LaSalle, Upper St Clair, Peters Twp, Belle Vernon and Charleroi.
In addition to collecting, cleaning and delivering the coats, Model Cleaners will also award the top two school districts a cash award of $1,000 to the winner and $500 to the second place winner. To allow for the difference is school districts enrollments the winning school will be based on total enrollment divided by the number of coats donated. The highest ratio of coats donated per student wins.
Upon completion of the program The Salvation Army of Western Pennsylvania will distribute the donated coats to kids in need. ”The Salvation Army is blessed by our partnership with Model Cleaners," said Major Deb Sedlar, Divisional Commander of the Salvation Army's Western Pennsylvania Division. "Not only is it a wonderful thing that thousands of people will receive the gift of a warm coat, but the partnership with the schools in teaching our young people about the importance of giving back is an added benefit.” Last year Model Cleaners employees collected, cleaned and delivered over 4,500 donated coats that totaled more than $54,000 in free cleaning in addition to the cash award given to the winning schools.
Our goal in 2017 is to collect, clean and delivery 10,000 coats to kids in need this winter. Thank you for participating in such a worthy cause in an effort to keep children in need warm this winter.
Sincerely,
Dan LaCarte
President/Model Cleaners
