Jesse Boyd Elementary School~~~ August 25, 2018

Welcome to 2018-2019........ from Dr. Rose

We are so super excited to welcome back our returning 1st through 5th graders and welcome our new JBE Bulldogs as we inspire and equip our students to become SUPERSTARS in a JBE production. Each year we have a school theme and this year, if you've not already noticed, is a hollywood theme of A JBE Production. We feel honored each year to be a part of each student's life. We know that each student has a story and we are excited to be a part of that story. Each student will be setting goals and working towards becoming a JBE SUPERSTAR and will be honored at our monthly student assembly, called Coffeehouse. Your student's teacher will explain those goals in more detail at our Open House in September. Additionally, students are all a part of a JBE production company: Pixar, Warner Brothers, DreamWorks, and Universal. These production companies will work together on team building and a service project this school year.

We are super excited about the work that our students and teachers will accomplish this year and as always we are looking forward to another outstanding year at Jesse Boyd. If there is ever any issues, questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to email me anytime at mrose@spart7.org or call the school at 594-4430.

Dismissal

Thank you all for your patience in car line this week. The first few days are always difficult. The car line will get better and will run smoother throughout the next week.

Just a couple of reminders:

-Be ready prior to being in the car line with all papers signed and book bags ready to depart the car. It's never too early to start teaching students to unbuckle and buckle themselves in each day.

-If at all possible, have students seated in the back passenger side of the car for easy exit and entrances into the car.

-No passing other cars unless instructed by a faculty member to do so.

-Pull all the way up to the next available cone when dropping off or picking up students.

-Keep music in car at a low volume level.

-For safety, please refrain from phone usage in the car line.

-Per District 7 policy, no smoking, even inside your car, on school grounds.

As a reference, SC has a new law for safety of children in cars. You can read that article from The State newspaper by clicking HERE.

As a reminder, it is best if you are changing the way your student is to get home that you send a note with the student to the child's teacher.

Additionally, students cannot be dismissed from the front office after 2pm for security and supervision issues.

If your student rides the bus or you would like to have your student on a bus, please be sure to call the bus office at 594-4423 for assistance.

Our walkers must cross at the cross walk. If you walk to pick up your student, meet them at the stop sign where the teachers will bring our students. We will not allow students to walk unattended in the parking lot to meet a parent/guardian. Students in 5K and 1st grade are not allowed to walk home alone. If a 5K or 1st grade student is to walk home with an older student, we will require a note from you giving your permission for this.

As a note, The HOA from the condos adjacent to JBE has contacted us and let us know that any cars parked in their home owner's parking spaces are subjected to being towed. We understand that the car line does take a few minutes to navigate, but it is the best manner of picking up students who are car riders. We do ask that our walker area be reserved for students who are actually walking home. We certainly do not want to put convenience above safety.

School Start and Dismissal Times

We begin school each day at 7:45am. We dismiss school each afternoon at 2:28pm.

In order for a student to be counted for an entire school day, students must be in school by 11:00am or cannot be dismissed prior to 11:30am.

Due to safety and supervision, students are not dismissed from the main office after 2pm.

CONGRATULATIONS TO.....Mrs. Bryant

The 2018 Jesse Boyd Teacher of the Year is 5th grade teacher Mrs. Bryant. At the district's convocation two weeks ago, Mrs. Bryant was named the Spartanburg School District 7's Teacher of the Year. She will represent our entire district in the State of SC's Teacher of the Year program.

While we feel all of our teachers at JBE are outstanding, Mrs. Bryant is a great representative of how great teachers inspire and equip their students for meaningful lives of leadership and service as world citizens.

JBE Musical

Each year, our students perform a school wide musical. At our coffeehouse on Friday the name of this year's production was announced. This year our students will be performing Disney's Cindererlla. Any student in grades 1-5 interested in being a part of our production will need to pick up forms from Mrs. Fischer beginning on Monday. Those forms and fees will be due prior to trying out for the play.

PTSO

The Jesse Boyd PTSO is an active organization that is vital to our school. We would love all families to join the PTSO and we would love for any parents who can to be an active member of the PTSO. The PTSO will have their first meeting on the year on Tuesday at 6pm at school. Babysitters are available.

MacBooks

All students in grades 2-5 are given a MacBook for instructional use. Our students in grades 4 and 5 will be able to take those MacBooks home. In order for students to take their MacBook home, they will need to opt in/out of the school's $25 Protection Plan and for new students and 4th grade students, parents will need to attend a brief orientation. Our next orientation will be held during our Open House.
