History of Iceland
Iceland is a island located between the artic sea and the North Atlantic ocean, northwest of the United Kingdom. Previously it was a part of another country. However in 1918 Iceland became independent. Iceland wasn't a founder of the European Union (EU), it actually recently became a candidate in July of 2010.
Iceland flag
The Iceland flag has many meanings. The flag is Blue with a Red Cross that is outlined with white. The red symbolizes volcanic fires, while the white symbolizes snow and ice fields. Finally, the blue represents the oceans surrounding the island.
Tourism
Icelands attracts many tourist. Mostly for the glaciers and the geysers. Iceland is known for the beautiful environment and pretty surroundings.
Georgraphy
Iceland has many physical features. Between the glaciers, volcanos, snow covered mountains, and geysers Iceland has many attractions.
Government
Iceland has a constitutional goverment which means that the head of state and other officials are representatives of the Icelandic people. Unlike other places in the EU, Iceland has its own currency. Most places use the Euro, while Iceland uses the Icelandic króna.
Facts about Iceland
Iceland is known as the land of fire and ice due to the snow storms and volcanoes. Icelandic is the main language but most people understand English. Iceland has more then 20 active volcanos and the largest covers 8% of the country!
