Indiana State Fair champion

Our own SLS kindergartener, Jack Brunsman, won 1st place in the Indiana Young Famers Association Pedal Pull at the State Fair on August 11th. This qualified him to participate in the Champion of Champions on August 19th, also held at the State Fair. Jack did a "full pull" at 300 lbs, and his 2nd pull was another "full pull" at 350 lbs. It came down to him and one other pedal-puller. Jack's 3rd attempt resulted in him pulling a 450 lb sled 31 feet and his competitor having a "full pull", so Jack placed second in this competition. Jack also participated at the Pioneer Engineers Club earlier this month, receiving a 1st place. He is now qualified to pull at the 2019 National Kiddie Tractor Pullers Grand National Championship in Greenville, Ohio. Way to go Jack!

Extreme Makeover: Classroom Edition

When Mrs. Lents’s students returned to St. Louis School in August, they were met with a classroom makeover. Thanks to the generosity of the CREATE Foundation and the help of principal Chad Moeller, IT Director Jessica Imel, and Maintenance Director Wade Ryle, Mrs. Lents was able to get a flexible seating environment for her students. Her classroom makeover included new floors, fresh paint, two large screen tvs, and a wide variety of seating options for her kids.

Students now have the opportunity to choose a seat that is more comfortable and conducive to their personal learning styles. It gives the students choices and accountability for their learning, and allows Mrs. Lents more flexibility in her instructional strategies. Students in our world today must be able to work cooperatively with others and think critically. Flexible seating arrangements give kids the opportunity to develop these crucial skills in a relaxed environment.
