We are still here!

Our first week of full in person, full days is behind us and we are ready for week 2! My most interesting observation this week was watching students' stamina for learning start to grow. It definitely was a rough adjustment for some students to be in school all day again. I noticed a lot of tired cherubs at the beginning of the week that were wiped out after lunch. By the end, I could see their stamina building. I am excited to see if the stamina continues to build this week, just in time for vacation!

MCAS Update

I know it is hard to believe, but the Dept. of Ed. has changed their expectations for the administration of MCAS for fully remote students. Previously, the expectation was for remote students to come to the school to take their MCAS test and dates were scheduled for this administration in DCRSD. The Dept. has now issued guidance that provides districts with the ability to administer the test remotely to students who are at home. The test will still be proctored by teachers who will require students' cameras and mics to be on while testing. Dates for this administration have not yet been selected as more information is forthcoming from the Department of Ed. Please stay tuned for more information as we receive it here at DES.

Grade 4 Celebration

Every year it is bittersweet as our 4th grade students leave us for the Middle School. In years past, there has always been a big celebration at the end of the 4th grade year to mark these students finishing their "elementary" careers. Last year, students and teachers had to get creative for their end of the year celebration. This year is unfortunately no different. The one thing we do have on our side is time to plan and think creatively!

Our first thought is to provide a celebratory t-shirt for all 4th grade students to commemorate their time in elementary school. Please use THIS FORM to order the correct size for your student(s) by May 6th at the latest. There is no cost involved to you, we will be handling the cost through the school.

Our second thought is to put together a compilation of student pictures, music and art to celebrate the work that has been done over the past 5 years. Please stay tuned as we work through the logistics of this project. I promise the outcome will be worth the wait.

If you have any additional suggestions for our 4th grade end of the year celebration, please let me know at ktrue@dcrsd.org!
