We thank them for their outstanding contributions! Wear your Golden Tie with pride!

Big picture

Winter Phys Ed is starting next week! By Tuesday morning, Winter Phys Ed classes will be added to student schedules in mySelwyn. Fall Phys Ed classes will be removed from student schedules at that time. All students must attend their assigned class on Nov 8 (for classes on the Senior School schedule) and Nov 9 (for classes on the Middle School schedule). Proper clothing and footwear are required. All requests to change Phys Ed classes can be directed to Ms. Beech until November 11th provided there is space in the desired option.

Squash - new option for Winter Phys Ed! Beginning next Wednesday, M. Faubert will be supervising squash as a Middle School Phys. Ed. option (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays) during the winter term. Classes will be held at the Atwater Racquet Club and all equipment will be provided. Participants need gym clothing and shoes. If you're interested in joining the squash class, email or speak to Ms. Beech this week!

Halloween Festivities were a fa-boo-lous success! Thank you to parents and students who donated decorations and treats to help us celebrate this day at Selwyn House! Kahoot winners Gus Matossian, Sam Korne, and Harley Minzberg earned candy prizes. Winners of the costume competition earned candy prizes: 1st - Gus Matossian as Darth Maul; 2nd - Tristan Kaulbach and Cruse Valle Deegan as a construction cone and construction worker; and 3rd - Aidan Mactaggart as a very convincing Man in Black (MIB)! The winner of the door decorating contest was class 8-1, who earned donuts for their class! 8-2 was the second place class earning timbits, and 7-1 placed third and won candy. Congratulations to everyone for their spooky efforts!

Middle School Fundraising Efforts: The Middle School will be donating over $500 to the Montreal Children’s Hospital this month! The money was raised from ticket and snack sales at the MS Movie Night held on October 26 and donations from the toonie collection on October 31. Thank you to parents and students for supporting these successful fundraisers!

A new episode of the Gryphon Podcast is online! This month the podcast features an interview with Headmaster, Mr. Mike Downey. You’ll find this month’s podcast and the previous podcasts HERE.

$2 Poppy Donation for the Remembrance Day Assembly being held for students on Friday, November 11 in Coristine Hall. Please note that all students are required to be in full uniform (including blazers), and must wear a poppy. Poppies will be distributed during first period class that day, and a suggested donation of $2 is requested for the Royal Canadian Legion in support of Canadian veterans and to promote Remembrance.

Parent-Student-Teacher Virtual Interviews Nov 17 and 18: Beginning next Thursday, Nov 10 at 3:00 p.m., parents can make appointments using pickAtime, our online booking software. The instructions for booking appointments are attached. Please note that interviews are not mandatory and you have the option to contact a teacher to arrange a phone call or alternate meeting time if that is preferable. Also, you may wish to wait until the November interim reports are emailed to you (Tuesday Nov 15 is the target) and then arrange appointments accordingly. Students are expected to attend the Zoom interviews with their parents on Nov 17 and 18.

Founder's Day 2022: The Selwyn House community is invited to attend the celebration of the 114th anniversary of the founding of the school on Thursday, November 24. Reception starting at 6pm, presentations at 6:45pm. Click here for more information about the evening and to RSVP. This year, we will celebrate this year's Speirs Medal recipient, Former Head of Middle School and Alumni Parent Carol Manning. We will also be honouring this year's recipient of the Nancy Pitfield Parent Volunteer Award, Leila Roiter, as well as Honorary Old Boys (names to be announced).

A message from the Parent Volunteer Association: Save the date for MS & SS Parent Trivia night on Thursday, December 8 at 7:00 PM at Selwyn House. Parents, mark your calendars for an evening filled with Trivia, Food and Fun. Be on the lookout for an email from the PVA with details and sign-up information.

Holiday Baskets: Once again, Selwyn House will be providing food, gifts and essential items to families living in the nearby neighbourhood, Pointe-Saint-Charles. This year, Middle School will be supporting 14 families through our Teacher Advisory Groups (TAG). Every student will be asked to sign up to bring in specific food items based on their assigned family’s needs, as well as $20 to contribute towards gifts for each family member. Please encourage your son to go to the grocery store and purchase the items himself, and to get involved by wrapping gifts, making homemade goodies, or delivering during the week of December 12-16. TAG leaders will provide more details to students in the coming days.
