Message from Supt. Gardner

As you may have heard by now, state officials announced changes to Oregon’s COVID-19 prevention measures last week. One of these includes a "test-to-stay" option for students exposed to COVID-19 while at school. Under the new testing program, asymptomatic staff and students will be able to stay at school and participate in extracurricular activities if they test negative for COVID immediately after the exposure and again between days 5-7 (following the exposure), as long as correct masking was in place.

It is important to understand that this option only applies to exposures within classroom and bus settings. Staff and students who are exposed in other settings (home exposures) or during extracurricular activities (athletics) will not have the option to test-to-stay.

The District is in the process of opting into the program with ODE. We will let everyone know when we can officially launch. We are very encouraged by this development and believe this will have a positive impact on efforts to keep as many students attending school in-person as possible.

Sincerely,

Andy Gardner

NSSD Superintendent
