Standards Support Highlight
Curriculum Guide Highlight: Support for Key Ideas & Details standards cluster
Guiding students as they grapple with text is the core of literacy instruction. The Vocabulary Instruction (page 9) and Building and Strengthening Reading Skills (page 10) pages in the Curriculum Guide offer guidance in planning for deep analysis of texts.
Standards Support Highlight: Strong question sequences
Questions that guide students back to the text provide an opportunity to strengthen comprehension. The Text-Based Questions, FSA Style folder in Sharepoint is a resources to assist in planning for strong question sequences.
Standards Support Highlight: Writing
Resources in Sharepoint are available as teachers continue to support written responses with attention to the FSA rubric

Upcoming Math Material for Grade 6 Regular
Science
8th Grade Science
Quarter 3 is full of the tested Physical Science standards and meant to bring in the labs and fun science activities for the home stretch preparation for the SSA in May. Have students write in a lab notebook to supplement the digital work. This may seem like an extra step, but research shows that writing helps students remember. You don’t have to grade it but provide them the means and strategies to study and succeed!
Quarter 3 Benchmarks
- SC.8.P.9.2 - physical and chemical changes
- SC.8.P.9.1 - law of conservation of mass
- SC.8.P.9.3 - temperature’s influence on chemical changes
Review Benchmarks
- SC.8.L.18.1 - photosynthesis
SC.8.L.18.2 - cellular respiration
SC.8.L.18.3 - carbon cycle
SC.6.E.6.1 - physical and chemical weathering
SC.7.E.6.2 - patterns within the rock cycle
Science Technology Tip and Upcoming Dates
Science Technology Tip: Students often struggle with the concept of Mass and Density. You may not have brought out the usual density cubes or measurement tools yet so try out the “Density Laboratory” Gizmo
Upcoming Dates:
- QBA3 test for 8th grade science is going to be done in two sessions during the week of March 22-26th. One session will be only Q3 content while the other is review of tested standards from Q1, Q2 and 6th grade Earth Science.
- 8th Grade SSA test is tentatively slated for May 25th
Social Studies
The Constitution gives both the President and Congress some control over U.S. foreign policy. In March, students will take the information they learned about the executive and legislative branches and focus on American foreign policy and citizen participation in international organizations. Students will then analyze the judicial branch and the significance and outcomes of landmark Supreme Court cases.
Benchmarks: SS.7.C.4.1, SS.7.C.4.2, SS.7.C.4.3, SS.7.C.3.8 , SS.7.C.3.11, SS.7.C.3.12
Resources: CPALMS, iCivics, Civics360, FJCC Civics in Real Life
Instructional Tips:
Provide links to study strategies with examples that seem most appropriate for your course and content. Ask former students what they did to prepare and study for your course and relay that to your current students.
Students have access to Prepworks to utilize the three practice assessments. The reports are very useful to determine benchmarks that may require further review or celebrations for success.
QB3 Assessment:
- QBA3 will be a cumulative assessment and take place over two days
March Character Trait: Honesty
March – Women's History Month
March 25 – Medal of Honor Day

CCPS, in partnership with Uncharted Learning, will be hosting a workshop for CTE middle & high school teachers focusing on entrepreneurship.
Entrepreneurship across the Curriculum
What is it?
A three-part applied course design workshop series where teachers learn the basics of entrepreneurship, receive personalized coaching on how and where to integrate current, industry-standard principles and practices of entrepreneurship into their classes, and apply innovative, experiential course design strategies to enhance their curriculum. Teachers come away with a robust, revamped syllabus that integrates real world entrepreneurship tools and strategies into their existing curriculum, and the skills to incorporate innovative experiential learning practices into their teaching.
- SESSION 1 - KICKOFF The series starts with a 2-day immersive kick-off where teachers explore tools and mindsets of entrepreneurs and innovative experiential learning course design approaches. Teachers come away from the initial workshop with a revamped syllabus that embeds entrepreneurial skills and performance assessments into their class.
- SESSION 2 - ITERATE The cohort of teachers returns midyear to reconnect, share successes, unpack challenges, engage in a formative evaluation of their class, and strategize iterations to improve the student learning and entrepreneurship experience.
- SESSION 3 - REFLECT The series culminates with a guided reflection workshop where teachers will evaluate their course against their own student learning outcomes and develop an action plan for continuing to integrate entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial thinking, and experiential learning into their classes.

Examples of responsible decision-making include:
Demonstrating curiosity and open-mindedness
Identifying solutions for personal and social problems
Learning to make a reasoned judgement after analyzing information, data, and facts
Anticipating and evaluating the consequences of one’s actions
Recognizing how critical thinking skills are useful both inside and outside of school
Reflecting on one’s role to promote personal, family, and community well-being
Evaluating personal, interpersonal, community, and institutional impacts
You can help your students learn to make responsible decisions by teaching them to:

Canvas - External Tools Assignment
Did you know that you can create an assignment in Canvas with a pre-made format for your students using O365 applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.? It is easy to do. Simply create the document in the application of your choice, save it to YOUR One Drive and then create an assignment in Canvas with the Submission Type as: External Tool>O365 Cloud Assignment. This will put an individual copy of the document in each students OneDrive with easy access and submission through Canvas. Click on the Link for step-by-step directions.
Microsoft Forms
Microsoft FORMS is part of the Office 365 suite of programs and is available to all CCPS (Collier County Public Schools) staff and students. Go to the Office 365 icon on the desktop, log in using CCPS credentials and select forms from the left side navigation bar.
Microsoft FORMS offers “quizzes” with automatic grading features and “forms” for non-graded surveys that graphically display data in real-time. Graphed responses are provided to the form owner(s) in real-time and to the respondent in either real time or when the owner posts the scores. That option is found in the settings in the top right corner of the interface.
Additionally, FORMS, like most office 365 programs, contains the Immersive Reader feature that provides visual and auditory support options. These features include the ability to read the question aloud and in multiple language options. A full self-paced training is available in the Microsoft Education Center - Link
Click on the Link for a detailed document highlighting the different question types and graphical data representations created in Forms.
