Titan Parents and Guardians
It was a pleasure meeting many of you for the first time at Open House. I hope you had a great time connecting with our teachers and observing the different clubs and organizations on campus. There certainly are many opportunities for your student to get connected with Eastlake High School. I also appreciate meeting many of you at Coffee with the Principal and the PTSA meeting. Here are some highlights from the past few weeks:
A. Coffee with the Principal Notes. Our community members had several concerns to discuss:
1. Can we make sure that teachers update grades on Jupiter? I will discuss this with our teacher leadership group.
2. Tell us about the parking situation coming up. We are trying to assist with parking and drop off in the morning. It looks like the City of Chula Vista will be creating a drop-off zone near the front of the park adjacent to the school. There will be heavy construction impacting us for several weeks. We will have an exact date for you once we know. We have also been in touch with city officials in regards to using the easement next to the school for parking. We will update you.
3. What are we doing about vaping? We are going to host a Vaping Concerns Meeting at a future Coffee with the Principal. The PTSA has contacted the American Lung Association and we are getting a date set up. Also, we are exploring having random dogs on campus to search for vaping devices. We want to make sure our community feels comfortable with this action.
4. What are we doing to promote the social well-being of our students? Our counseling department has a safe space for students to visit and use for a timeout. The students are aware of this opportunity. Also, our teachers are being trained in Social Emotional Learning to better connect with students.
B. PTSA Notes. Our amazing parent and guardian leaders met last week to discuss support systems for our school. I hope you will join this great organization. Discussions are ongoing about parent series. We are exploring anxiety, vaping and Smart Start (young drivers program) for the upcoming weeks. You can check out the PTSA website for more information.
C. Community Member Leadership Opportunities. We are starting our school evaluation and audit process known as WASC. We will need several parent volunteers to serve on various committees about leadership, culture and climate and instructional practices. Be on the lookout for these opportunities. We need you! Please do fill out surveys that we send to you. They will help us to improve.
D. Tardies. Please note that if students are not within the gates when the bell rings, they will need to go to the gate to the side of the main office to get a late slip. We are working on using a scanning device to expedite the process.
E. Recognize our Staff. We have awesome staff at Eastlake High School. Please take the time recognize them by filling out this form. We have a faculty meeting this Wednesday and I would love to recognize our staff!
As always, go Titans.
