Mary's Mount Primary School
Term 2, Week 1 - 22 April 2021
Prayer for the beginning of Term 2
Lord,
As we prepare for the coming of a new term make us ready, attentive and available to hear you.
Thank You for the gift of being able to rise each day
with the assurance that You walk through it with us.
Thank you for the gifts of creativity and uniqueness, and the energy to put them to good use.
May all that we are today, all that we try to do today, may all our encounters, reflections, even the frustrations and failings all be placed in your hands.
May the work we do and the way we do it, bring new hope, new life, and courage to all we come in contact with this Term. We thank you, Lord.
We make this prayer through Christ Our Lord,
Amen.
PRINCIPAL'S NEWS
Welcome back to Term 2. I trust you and your children had a restful holiday and are recharged for a long 11 week term. Our staff were excited to greet the children this week and to get into the flow of the Mary’s Mount Primary School learning routines.
Staff Development
During our professional learning community meeting this week, we spent time refining our Mary’s Mount Primary School Vision for Learning. It was a meeting where we engaged in meaningful conversation, shared our beliefs and came to a mutual understanding of our vision. Staff found the session empowering and came away affirmed and energised. We will be continuing this conversation over the coming weeks and will share with the community once completed.
On Friday of this week the staff will engage in Professional Learning around our whole school approach to spelling. Feedback from this learning experience will be shared with you in next weeks newsletter.
Naplan
Our Year 3 and 5 students are being prepared to take Naplan tests. While it is quite natural for students to feel a little nervous before a test, it is important to remind your children that the results from Naplan do not tell us how special they are. Naplan does not measure their kindness, empathy, creativity, motivation, effort or ability to be a good friend. Naplan tests language conventions, spelling, writing, reading and numeracy skills. Naplan provides our school with information about how each student is developing against the Australian Curriculum, but it does not test or measure your child’s God-given uniqueness or potential. Please encourage your child to relax and to just try their best.
100 Year Gala Dinner
Extra tickets have been released for sale! Get in quick before they go. We are excited by the number of people past and present in our school community who will be joing us for this special evening.
HIGHWAY HEROES
Connection 4 Friendship
The staff of Mary’s Mount Primary School are launching the Highway Heroes programme with your children this week. There is a buzz in the air as we start the language of Highway Heroes and connect our children with the tools to become a Highway Hero themselves.
You may have noticed a change to the walkway near the library. This area will be named our Wellness Walkway. Highway Heroes tools will be on display in this space along with a visual of the Mary’s Mount Primary School children riding the highway of life. A couch has also been placed in this area. During lunchtime I will be making myself available for children to come sit with me and have a chat. I started this towards the end of last term, and I had many a visitor. It is a beautiful and informal way for me to make meaningful connections with the children.
Each class teacher will be sending home resources and at home activities for you to engage in with your child. Our website will house Highway Heroes information also.
Coffee and a Chat with Mrs Bell - Friday 11 June at 9.00am
The theme of our conversation will be around the social and emotional well-being of our children and the Highway Heroes program. If you have any questions or would like to share how you are transitioning the language of Highway Heroes from school to home, this will be a great opportunity. More importantly, this is a time to make strong connections and build on my partnership with you.
Nature Playground Busy Bee
The school is excited to support the Nature Playground Busy Bee organisers to promote volunteers to come along and help out on Saturday 1 May from 8.00am. The children cannot wait to be able to play in this space. I think I might give the slide a go once it is finished. Check out the flyer below with the details!
P&F Meeting
Please come along to the next P&F meeting on Wednesday 28 April at 1.45pm. The meeting will be held in the school hall. There is much to discuss and your input is valued and encouraged.
I wish you a blessed and happy weekend,
Emma Bell

AN UPDATE ON CENTENARY EVENTS
100 YEAR DINNER UPDATE – 22 May 2021
Thank you to everyone who has purchased tickets to our 100 Year Gala Dinner so far. Tickets have been selling fast, so if you haven’t purchased your tickets yet, don’t wait too long. It will be a great evening with Tim MacMillan (ex MMPS student) agreeing to emcee the evening for us. There is a superb line up of entertainment including the band HighNRG. Behind the scenes Naomi Holly, Linzi Moore, Natalie O’Brien, Maria Bonomi and Gabby Hoffmann have been planning this event to make sure it will be befitting of a 100 years of Catholic education celebration at MMPS.
Sponsorship has been coming in, thanks to Bettina Hanna who is heading this up. We are still in need of additional sponsorship to help subsidise the cost for the evening. If you have a business, or work for someone who may be interested in being a sponsor of this event, have a look at the sponsorship document below. We have also had some families sponsor a table for $100, so if this sounds like something you may be interested in, you can email Bettina via sponsorship@mmps.wa.edu.au or by contacting the school office. You could even sponsor a table under a class – ie. Y5 class and have 10 people in the class each contribute $10 each.

A whole school mass and morning tea has been planned for the morning of 17 June 2021 at St Mary’s Cathedral. Parents and past families will also be able to attend. Details about this will be available early next term.
