What are we doing?
Welcome to our Open House session about fractions for 5th graders! I am excited to share some basic math concepts with you, specifically how to add and subtract fractions with different denominators, as well as how to work with mixed numbers.
Fractions are like pieces of a whole, and adding or subtracting them can be tricky when the pieces aren't the same size. We'll show you some simple ways to make those pieces fit together by finding common denominators. Once we do that, adding and subtracting becomes much easier!
Mixed numbers are another part of fractions. They're like a mix of whole numbers and fractions, such as 2 1/3. We'll learn how to work with them too, which is helpful for things like measuring ingredients in recipes or understanding distances.
We want everyone to feel confident with fractions, so we'll use fun activities and clear explanations to make learning easy and enjoyable. Feel free to ask questions and explore with us as we discover the world of fractions together!
