Lend a Hand and Donate a Can: March 1- March 5
It's time for the annual Love Kitchen Can Drive! Please help us give some love to our Knoxville Love Kitchen! Bring in cans of food from Monday, March 1 through Friday, March 5. You can also donate at https://givebutter.com/fhssga.
The Love Kitchen provides meals and food packages to homebound, homeless and unemployed persons. They work with local agencies to provide meals, secure used clothing, and donate services in the hope of promoting the self-sufficiency of those they serve. The organization has no paid staff; all donations go to those who need it most. The ultimate goal is to provide nourishment for anyone who is hungry and to establish a community center to serve as a safe haven supporting area children and their families. Helen and Ellen's dream became a reality in the basement of a small church in February 1986. The first day the Love Kitchen opened its doors, they served 22 meals. Today The Love Kitchen prepares over 2,000 meals each week and more than eighty percent of these meals are delivered to homebound recipients.
Any of the following items will be greatly appreciated:
Boxes of cornbread mix, Mac and Cheese, cans of corn, beans, green beans, peas, carrots, mixed veggies, sweet potatoes, fruit cocktail, soup, dried beans, and rice
The Farragut Intermediate School class with the most cans raised ($1=2 cans; 2 packages of Ramen= 1 can) will receive a Chick-Fil-A breakfast. The Chick-Fil-A breakfast is being donated by the Town of Farragut Education Relations Committee.
Spotlight on Learning - Special Areas: Physical Education and Art
P.E.
This year, our P.E. teachers are doing a combination of indoor and outside teaching. During inside P.E., they do small-sided to large-sided games. Some of the most recent activities have included: Pin Ball, Crab Soccer, Fitness Hoop Flip, and Fitness activities on the large gym screen from the PE canvas page. Recently, we have been working on throwing skills toward a target.
In the outside P.E. classes, the students have been learning several new small-sided station activities. Multiple stations are set up outside. The teachers review each station, instructing students about each activity, then students choose which stations in which they would like to participate. Stations this week include Stryker Ball, Jump Rope, Basketball, Four Square Tag, Team Square, 4 Square, Triangle Ball, and Floor Square. Triangle Ball is a new activity for the week.
Art:
FIS students are currently exploring Impressionist Art and learning painting techniques used by Monet, Cassatt, and Degas. Students are using watercolor techniques to show the light and shadow of a landscape, similar to the quick methods artists used during this time to record what they saw before the light changed and the colors looked different.
