Chartwell Recognized as Ocean Guardian School

We proudly announce that Chartwell was accepted as an Ocean Guardian school starting this year. Coordinated by NOAA and the National Marine Sanctuaries, an Ocean Guardian school makes a commitment to the protection and conservation of its local watersheds, the world's ocean, and special ocean areas, like national marine sanctuaries. The school makes this commitment by proposing and then implementing a school- or community-based conservation project. You can learn more at https://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/education/ocean_guardian/.

For our first year, we are committed to engaging internally and educating our immediate community on ways we can identify and protect our local watershed. To do this, we will take part in various activities throughout the school year, including working to remove non-native plants and replace them with native ones. In addition, we'll be using the Bark to share quick facts about our watershed and tips on how to protect it and conserve vital resources - often delivered by students using narrative, art, and video. Keep an eye out for those! If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Kelly or Topher Mueller.

LOWER AND MIDDLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Middle School Dress Code - Please Read

Please review the below guidelines with your child(ren) regarding Chartwell's dress code and support your child in adhering to them:

  • Students' cohort color should be worn daily, with a short-sleeve or long-sleeve shirt (preferably a Chartwell shirt)
  • Students can wear a sweatshirt or jacket that is in their cohort color
  • If the outside jacket or sweatshirt is not in their cohort color, it should have a zipper or buttons and be open so we can see their cohort color.
  • If it is raining, any rain jacket is acceptable.

HIGH SCHOOL NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Semester 1 HS Course Descriptions

Please click here to review the course descriptions from Semester 1. This document outlines the content and course objectives of your child's classes. If you have not had your family conference yet this week, it may offer useful information and insight as you prepare for your conversations with your child's teachers.

11th Grade Students Start Meetings Next Week

Students in the 11th grade will have one-on-one meetings with Ms. LeValley over the next three weeks to discuss life after high school, possible college or university criteria, career interests, and/or gap programs. These meetings are exploratory in nature and students are encouraged to brag and dream big as they begin visualizing their adult lives. Families of 11ith graders will receive a questionnaire from Ms. LeValley this month as part of our effort to collect information about the students. If you have questions, please email her at alevalley@chartwell.org

$20 Needed for High School Corporations Project

All high school students should bring $20 cash to school this week to kick off their "Corporations" project. Each student-run corporation will have a chance to earn their funds back, plus profits. If sending $20 to school for your student is a burden on your family, please send a confidential email to Katia in the business office at kstornetta@chartwell.org and she will supply the cash to your student discreetly.

When students buy into their businesses, it creates a greater sense of ownership. Thank you for supporting this project!
