Placerita Prospector
Placerita Jr. High School - January 23rd, 2022
This Week at Placerita 1.23.22 / Esta semana en Placerita 1.23.22
Good Evening Placerita Families...
Thank you all for being patient with all the emails that you have received over the past couple weeks. Hopefully, soon we will be able to return to our regular goal of mainly communicating through the Prospector on Sunday evenings. However, we will still have to communicate about close contacts and we are so hopeful that we will reach the peak and head down the hill to much smaller numbers in the county. Even though our numbers were not that large, the new guidelines require us to notify every classroom where there has been someone to test positive.
You can see all the District numbers on the District Dashboard here: (https://www.hartdistrict.org/apps/pages/covid-19dashboard)
The District has also provided a regularly updated presentation about all the changes to our COVID Guidelines and it can be found on the District Website here: https://www.hartdistrict.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1808842&type=d&pREC_ID=2284249
Take a look there for all the latest information.
We will continue this week with emails about positive cases as well as close contacts. There are two types of emails that you could receive. One email is just a notification of a positive case in one of your student's classes. You are sent that email so that you may monitor your student in case they begin to have any symptoms that develop. The second email is one that lets you know if your student was a close contact and it gives instructions on what to do next. The main thing that may be needed as a result of a close contact is testing to determine if someone has become positive. Students may do that through an outside testing source as well as through our health office.
As many of you have already taken advantage of, we will have Rapid Tests available at one per student that have been provided to us by the State of California. If your student needs to be tested before they return to school tomorrow and you were not able to get a test this weekend, we will have rapid tests ready for you at 7:15 in the morning like we have done before. A parent will need to be present with a student to assist with the test. These tests will be distributed from the Dalbey Dr. side entrance of Tanner Hall right across from the flagpole in front of school.
Don’t forget you may order rapid tests from the Federal Government at https://www.covidtests.gov/. You can order one time for each address. They will send you four test kits per household.
Talent Show
Talent show auditions are taking place after school tomorrow (1/24). If your student has questions about that, have them see Ms. Schultz in Room 13.
Don't forget that February 2 is a minimum day across the District. We will be releasing students at noon on that day.
Healthy Choices for 7th Graders
All our 7th grade parents have received a letter from the District explaining the process for the options you have with your students for covering our Healthy Choices curriculum. We will have a presentation by all the Jr. High Principals on February 8th if you are interested. See the information below in the Healthy Choices section for specifics of how to attend one of these presentations if you are interested.
That's it for tonight. Have a good week!
Mr. Turner

Show de talentos
Sr. Turner

There are sensitive topics being discussed and we want you to be aware so you can make a decision if you choose to opt out for your student. This is an opportunity for parents to see what will be taught and how it will be presented.

The teachers and District staff that designed this curriculum were sensitive to the age of our students, given the subject matter. Ultimately, this curriculum opens the door for conversation between you and your child, allowing you to guide them based on your family choices and beliefs.
If you are interested in learning more we look forward to seeing you on February 8th at one of the informational meetings.

Students are required to be wearing their IDs all the time they are at school.
There are several reasons that each student is required to wear their IDs during school each day. School Check-in each morning, identification for safety purposes and lunch purchases are a few of the reasons that students will need to have their personal IDs on them at all times just like last year. They will not be required during PE or during time that students are participating in activities where there would be a safety concern like in wood shop.

Hello Placerita Families! We have some very exciting and important news for our community.
The new Student Care Line for Placerita will be broadened to include mental health and wellness concerns. If you are struggling or know someone who is struggling, the Student Care Line will make early intervention possible, allowing for small problems to be handled before they become big problems.
If you are a student, parent, or community member with a concern that needs attention from an administrator at Placerita please text us here. You can send a text message to (661) 282-7522. All text messages received will be forwarded to our former Text-A-Tip line. We now have a new reporting system for our students and their families to use to share a concern about another student's well-being. This reporting system is called the Student Care Line.
Over the last several years, the William S. Hart Union High School District has placed an emphasis on student wellness. Knowing that a student who feels emotionally supported is more successful, the District set out to open Wellness Centers on each of our campuses, with the first of those opening in August of 2019. Now the District is looking to expand this effort even further by taking the existing Text-A-Tip line and re-branding it as the new Student Care Line, providing a more comprehensive function.
Text-A-Tip has been used by students, staff and families to report something out of the ordinary. With the goal being “If you see something, say something"; Text-A-Tip was there to report if someone was wanting to hurt themselves or others, or even if there was the possibility of someone committing a crime.
The new Student Care Line will be broadened to include mental health and wellness concerns. If you are struggling or know someone who is struggling, the Student Care Line will make early intervention possible, allowing for small problems to be handled before they become big problems. Cause for concern might be indicated by:
Trouble controlling emotions
Withdrawal from friends and usual activities
Feelings of rejection or solitude
Feeling constantly disrespected
Frequent loss of temper
Increased risk-taking behavior
Talk of suicide or loss of hope
Self-harm
Declining school performance
Students and families are at their best when their emotional well-being is supported. Please join us in our commitment to this effort by using our Student Care Line when you need it.
