Attendance Protocols
Hello Fraser High School Students and Parents,
The following is to address a new practice being put into place during SMART hour starting Monday, December 13th. Our staff has found that there is too much roaming around during SMART hour. In a school setting, it is important that destinations are reached in a timely manner so students can be located quickly in times of need or emergency. Furthermore, SMART is a time for students to get help, retake assessments, and/or focus on other tasks for their classes. It is essential that our students are using this time effectively.
Starting Monday the 13th, all travel for the day, including restroom use, will be stopped at 1:45. By 1:45, students should have used the restroom and/or traveled to wherever they have gotten a pass to. This should be a focused time on learning and moving toward academic goals. It is understood that some students have individual circumstances and have unique passes they may still use during this time.
Additionally, we will start to use a new pass system in all classes. Students will need to scan a QR code and fill out a pass when leaving a classroom. The confirmation of filling out the pass can serve as a student’s pass when asked in the hallway. Teachers will set a 5 minute timer for trips to the bathroom or locker. Teachers are being asked to address longer than usual time out of class and, at times, adjust attendance accordingly. They are also being asked to contact home and inform administrators for students who misuse passes. This system will be fully in place by Monday, December 13th; however, some staff may have already started it.
There are circumstances that our teachers understand and can work with. The timer is to serve as a reminder to staff that someone is still out of the room and to the student to not roam around. Our staff knows that there are circumstances that can occur that cause longer time out of class. Attendance will not be affected unless time out of class is extensive. If you are someone who does not abuse passes during class you do not have to worry.
Finally, a reminder that this week’s attendance will affect your ability next week to scan out of SMART and hybrid courses, attend after school events, play/practice on sports teams, and attend/take part in any other extra-curricular activity. If you have 4 or more tardies or UNV’s this week, then you will not be able to do any of these activities next week. This will be the practice every week for the rest of the year – your attendance in one week will affect your ability to take part in these items the following week.
We appreciate everyone’s efforts in making the focus of school be on learning in a safe environment. If you have any questions of concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Thank you,
Fraser High School Administration: Ryan Sines; Amy Jager; Kyle Ray; and Shannon Holmes
Students After School
In order to provide a safe environment, we are asking that all students are in the appropriate place after school.
- Students who have practice need to be with a coach. Students should not plan on staying at school until practice starts.
- Credit Recovery ends at 3:30pm and students are required to leave the building afterwards.
- Students can wait for rides until 3:30pm in the Media Center. After 3:30pm students will be asked to wait at the main entrance for their rides, if they are found wondering the building the y will be asked to leave.
- If students are not participating in extracurricular activities, they cannot be in the Athletic Wing after school.
- If students plan on coming to an after-school activity, they should plan on leaving the school and coming back at the start of the event.
We appreciate everyone’s efforts in making the focus of school be on learning in a safe environment. If you have any questions of concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
