Alkali Metals
Group 1
What are Alkali Metals and Where can they be found?
Alkali Metals are in Group 1 of the Periodic Table. They are shiny, soft and highly reactive. They can be cut easily due to their softness and they are all highly reactive metals at standard temperatures and pressure. The Alkali Metals are made up of Lithium, Sodium, Potassium, Rubidium, Cesium, and Francium. All of these metals can be found freely in nature.
Periodic Table
Francium, Lithium, Sodium, Rubidium, Cesium, and Potassium are all of the Alkali Metals. These are in group 1 which means that they have one valence electron.
Sodium
This is the Alkali Metal, Sodium. It is used in salts and streetlights. It also produces a yellow light.
Potassium
Potassium is also an Alkali Metal. You probably know Potassium as being in bananas. But Potassium is used in many other things like soaps and fertilizers.
What are they used for?
Alkali Metals are used in many things. These items range from Streetlights, Soaps, Detergents, Fertilizers, supplements, all the way to atomic clocks!
