FAMILY SUPPORTS
ARE YOU IN NEED OF FOOD ASSISTANCE FOR THANKSGIVING
As Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, we have a wonderful opportunity to share to CCA families. Our CCA Counselors are coordinating Thanksgiving essentials to reduce the financial burden the holiday can bring. If you and your family feel this would be helpful please fill out this form no later than Friday, November 10th so we can arrange the food accordingly.
CCA FAMILY ASSISTANCE
If you are in need of gift support over the holiday season for your child or family, we will do our best to help. With respect to all families, your wishes and names will not be shared with any donors. There are limited spots for this wonderful opportunity. Interested families can fill out this form.
Although there are no guarantees for assistance, we hope to be able to assist all CCA families in need but want to address that there might not be the same assistance opportunities as in previous years. We appreciate your support and hope you understand the uncertain times.
Please fill out one form per family, NOT per child. Deadline to submit the form is Friday, November 17th.

FFA ATTENDS GREENHAND FIRE UP
October 16, 2023 - Each year the Southeast district and Iowa FFA officers plan and facilitate Greenhand Fire Up Conferences for FFA members in the Southeast district. Cedar Rapids Prairie welcomed FFA chapters from all over the Southeast District on Monday October 16, 2023.
While at Cedar Rapids Prairie on Monday, district and state officers lead four interactive workshops for first year high school FFA members, also known as Greenhands, for the annual Greenhand Fire Up Conference. The workshops facilitated were leadership focused with an emphasis on the experiences that occur in the lives of beginning high school students. This year over 650 members from 40 different FFA Chapters attended the leadership event.
Iowa FFA President, Holly Schmitt, stated, “Greenhand Fire Up provides a chance for first-year high school members to get a sneak peek of the opportunities that FFA holds, and is a conference for members to meet and interact with state and district officers.”
The officers prepared and facilitated workshops of: authenticity, balancing priorities, communication, and FFA opportunities – in order to provide the first-year FFA members with skills they would use both within and outside of FFA. The goal was to engage FFA members in learning about the tools that would allow them to be successful in anything they are part of through high school and beyond.
Greenhand Fire Up is made possible with support from the Iowa FFA Foundation.
NUTRITION SERVICES
CLEAR CREEK ELEMENTARY
TRAINING FROM MAKE IT FRESH GRANT
November 7th, CCA Kitchen Managers spent their morning learning more about scratch cooking, standardized recipes, and recipe development thanks to a "Make It Fresh" grant. The team had a great experience and is excited to be sharing several new menu items with students soon.
In the coming months elementary students across the district will take turns participating in a "Try Day". Students will get to try samples of two new menu items and vote for their favorite. The winning menu item will be added to the elementary menus the following month. The Nutrition Department looks forward to giving our younger students a voice in the cafeteria.
We can’t wait to see what the students pick.

World Kindness Day is Monday, November 13th
World Kindness Day was first launched in 1998 by The World Kindness Movement, an organization formed of kindness organizations around the world. The mission of the World Kindness Movement and World Kindness Day is to create a kinder world by inspiring individuals and nations towards greater kindness. The day serves as a reminder to prioritize compassion in our lives. It encourages individuals and communities to go beyond their routines and make a positive difference in our lives and the lives of others.
Here are some ideas of how to celebrate:
Do something nice for someone anonymously.
Volunteer for a cause you are passionate about.
Share uplifting stories, inspirational quotes, or engage in conversations that promote kindness and empathy on social media.
Say Positive Affirmations to yourself in the mirror.
Play Kindness BINGO!
