Nuts & Bolts
February 25, 2019
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and the ever increasing amounts of light we get each day. Thanks for a great week last week. Several members of the team were out last week at USBE professional development sessions about literacy, getting excellent ideas and analyzing data. We will definitely continue next year with a school-wide focus on literacy.
If you have any ideas about how we can improve in this area, please let you level lead know and/or email me sooner than later. Also, communicate with admin and/or your team leads regarding any insight or ideas you have about curriculum. We will be addressing this topic soon as we make plans for next year.
Thank you, Dana, for setting up the Parent Education Night about executive functioning. It was very well attended by parents.
Thank you, Sunshine Committee, for organizing Pizzapalooza to allow us to parallel work with pizza.
At the end of this week, Lana and Dana will be out at a conference and a few teachers will also be out. Thank you, in advance, for being patient and clearly communicating when you need assistance.
I can't wait to see everyone's contributions to History Week. Thank you to the History Week Committee for organizing these events and for providing classroom ideas. Starbase Graduation should be awesome as well this week. Thank you, Amy, for setting up this amazing opportunity up for our students.
Have an amazing week,
From the committee:
Literacy Week is March 11-15th with Literacy Night on Tuesday, March 12th from 5:30-7:30pm. We will have a sign-up for teachers to help with an activity, or to put together one of their own, for Literacy Night.
The Read-a-thon will be on Friday, March 15th from 10-11am.
Teachers, please have your students bring in a copy of the cover of their favorite book. Students will be able to fill out a leaf for each book / number of pages they read. These leaves will be added to the tree which will be at the entrance of the school. We will put the leaves in teacher's boxes. Please help your students fill them out and return them to Karen
G&C Challenge - Restoring
I frequently hear that there is a lack of grace and courtesy in our building. Most recently, this was discussed at our advisory meeting. There were several reasons brought up that could be causing this phenomena. I would like us to try to address this by recognizing grace and courtesy when we see it happening.
Thank you for practicing and recognizing G&C when walking in the halls this past week.
This week I would like to pose a challenge for you to recognize students, families, and colleagues who restore the environment. Now would be a good time to spruce up your Adopt a Space areas and to thank others who help you keep it clean. Let us take great care to model this and to look for it in others this week. If you're not sure what a restored area is supposed to look like, please ask that area's adopters.
Cleaning feces and replacing these pumps have caused several of our bathrooms to be closed for hours or days. Thank you for reviewing proper bathroom procedures with your classes. As threatened before, we will have to resort to more extreme measures that severely limit student freedom if this continues to be an issue.
