Team:
This past week we added a new staff member that you might be familiar with...Meredith Wunsch. Meredith is our new Community in Schools liason and will be working with our students in a variety of scenarios. Her focus will mainly be on at-risk students but her talents lend her to much more. She will be a great addition to our staff...her office is located in the east wing of the main hallway near Nurse Mackenzie...please welcome her.
We are still ordering shirts for a few remaining staff members. Once everyone receives on, we will take a group picture in front of Bailey auditorium. Hopefully soon!
The three week point has past and there are just two more weeks remaining in this 6 weeks. The last week of the 6 weeks is during Homecoming (Sept 24-Sept 28). The timing is not ideal so we need to make decisions that will benefit our students academically while also allowing them to enjoy the time honored traditions that homecoming affords. Academics are a priority, but so is social growth and community outreach. Given that Homecoming includes many activities that are important to our students and community members, I would like to ask that homework and tests for the week are ended on Tuesday. Allow Wednesday - Friday for make-ups/catch up or get an early start on the next 6 weeks grades.
Find a way to make this happen for our students and their families. We discussed the impact stress can have on the hippocampus earlier in the year...this is a great opportunity to relieve some of that stress. If you have questions or concerns about this, please see me individually.
Take time to assess students who are failing currently. Why are they failing? How can we help them succeed? How can we meet them where they are? Utilize Buck Time as a mechanism for helping students catch up. Make contact with parents. Provide unsuccessful students with an avenue to be successful. Assign tutorials and hold students accountable when they don't show. Show them you expect them to be successful and then coach them through it.
Many students are currently receiving administrative intervention for tardies/attendance. Mrs. Brown has seen a drop in tardies since we implemented an improvement plan (which can include disciplinary intervention) from just a few weeks ago. We will never eliminate them completely (adults are late too, sometimes!) but we will continue to hold students accountable for being on time. Help us by being accurate with your attendance.
You guys are simply amazing! Keep growing!
Have a great weekend!
Be intentional about engagement!
