Sycamore Community Schools
September 2019
Conceptual Designs Released
The district has released conceptual designs but the exact details of the renovations and new buildings have not been decided. If the $127.5 million bond issue is approved in November, the district will engage staff, families, and the community in the design process.
Cost to Taxpayers
The district will responsibly phase-in the millage increase as previous bonds (Montgomery 1998 and Maple Dale 2010) are retired. The 4.0-millage request is effectively a 2.4-mil increase from what is currently being paid. Once fully funded, this will result in an $84 annual increase per $100,000 of property value. The total millage will never exceed 4.4 mills.

September Is #SpeakUpAves Month
Sycamore Community Schools has made mental health, fighting its stigma, and advocating for its awareness, a priority among all buildings and within all grade levels. For the entire month of September, we will be engaging students, staff, and families in important conversations through our #speakupAVES campaign.
Unfortunately, mental health issues are a drastically rising problem among adolescents. According to research performed by the Child Mind Institute, one in five teens and adults suffer from mental illness and 20% of children ages 13-18 live with a mental disorder. It impacts people of all ages, demographics, and income levels. That is why Sycamore is committed to caring for the whole child and providing support for students, families, and staff.
#speakupAVES Month is focused on raising awareness and will culminate with Sycamore High School’s participation in the 1N5 Warrior Run on October 5. As a part of the high school challenge, every dollar raised by the team will be reinvested back into Sycamore High School for mental health, mindfulness, and suicide prevention programming. Click here to sponsor the “Sycamore sAVES” team and select “donate.” You can also join the team by registering to be a part of the race by clicking here and select “join the team.”
Opportunity for Kindness
There is currently an opportunity for kindness through Sycamore Bridges.
A lifelong Aviator family is facing tremendous hardship due to a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis. They have fallen behind on paying bills because of overwhelming medical expenses. Monetary donations are greatly appreciated. They are also seeking a king-size adjustable bed to offer comfort during this very difficult time. If you have a bed available, Sycamore Bridges will make pick-up and delivery arrangements.
The district launched Sycamore Bridges in May 2019 to help bridge the gap between students and families in need and local advocates and donors. Counselors, teachers, administrators, and clergy who learn about needs can post them on the Sycamore Bridges website. Requests can be for anything from financial assistance to clothing, food, and furniture needs. Those who want to help can sign up to fill the needs. It's all anonymous and helping is as simple as clicking a button.
