Preview of One School One Book at WHS!
Although we have some fun things planned, the intent is that this is primarily a family activity. Reading will take place at home. With the exception of some morning announcements, there should be very little disruption of our school curriculum or schedule.
One way we are hoping to generate some excitement is to have a "stuffed" pig in your classroom. A rotating schedule can be created so that each student can take it home and read with her, and take a family picture with it (similar to what is often done with Flat Stanley). More information will be shared about this at our opening assembly.
We will use the website linked below to house everything related to One School One Book at Hammerschmidt. Feel free to preview it below:

Morgan's Tech Tip of the Week:
Wixie
Wixie is an online publishing platform that allows students to use creativity to express what they know through writing, their voice and their art. There are templates for all subject areas that you can adapt to meet your curriculum. I love seeing all the colorful Wixie projects in the hallways at WHS.
Wixie/Clever Update: Over break logging in for you and your students has become even easier. Now Wixie will automatically be logged in using your District’s clever account. Please let me know if your account has any trouble with this transition.
Wixie News: For ideas on how to use Wixie in your classroom check out the resource pages for samples and lesson plans for each grade level below.

WHS Staff Spotlight:
This is Morgan Dowell's 1st year at WHS! She enjoys cooking, spending time with friends and family, going to concerts, and being active
Some of Morgan's favorites include:
Song- This Must be the Place by the Talking Heads
Food- Gyros
Movie- National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. It is a holiday tradition with my cousins. Every Christmas Eve we watch it while enjoying chinese food. We have even had to skype one year when one cousin couldn't be there!
Morgan Dowell is inspired by her mom. "She has shown so much strength raising my brother and I when my dad wasn't in the picture. Currently she is taking the new journey of retirement by adding new hobbies, new friends in a new location. She is never afraid to reinvent herself."
Finally, Morgan believes, "Embrace the mighty purpose of being an educator. It's not about raising test scores it is about raising human potential." --Dave Burgess
