The Wonder Watch End of Year 2021
World of Wonder ~ Ellen Street Campus Newsletter
From the Director...
What a year! We have successfully navigated a school year during a world pandemic. I feel very blessed and fortunate that we were able to offer our Face to Face instruction most of the school year. I am very wowed and proud of the staff and all their creativity and efforts in making this year the success that it was. As the school year comes to a close, I am again reflecting on what a "Wonder-Full" year it has been. I feel so fortunate to be able each day witness children and teachers together "co-constructing" knowledge. At WoW we view children as competent, capable, and creative, and our curriculum is designed around the interests of our children. I am proud of the learning that is accomplished in our play-based programs--where we make it a priority to insure that "Nothing is Without Joy!" I have always been an advocate and defender of play. It is validating to see the numerous research studies that are consistently proving that play-based programs provide a long-term academic advantage in comparison to those of academically oriented early education classrooms. It is also concerning to see evidence that the more academic programs can produce long-term harm in the area I consider most important for preschool, that of social-emotional development. At WoW we strive to make social-emotional development the primary focus for all our children. This was especially true this year. I know that when our children transition from WoW to the next level of their education, that we have provided for them the very best foundation to move on to be their very best, Wonder Kids ready to take on the world!
Wishing you all the best for the summer and beyond! May your lives be filled with much Wonder, Joy and Love!
