Fulmore Middle School Newsletter
Week of 12/18/2015
From The Principal
Greetings Falcon Families! We are very proud of all our outstanding students this semester. Our Falcon students captured the spirit of the season through fabulous fine arts and athletic performances and academic projects.
Congratulations to our 8th grade Lady Falcons Basketball team for being this year’s Zone Champions. Nice job to all our girls’ basketball teams for showing great commitment, determination, and sportsmanship during our 2015 fall season.
Also to be recognized is our boys’ soccer team. Last night Fulmore Falcons held on to our title, Zone Champions. Congratulations for a fantastic season. Way to go Falcons!
Fulmore Middle School was recognized Monday night at the Austin ISD Board meeting for receiving four TEA Distinction Designations. We earned distinctions in: Postsecondary Readiness, Academic Achievement in Reading/English Language Arts, Academic Achievement in Science, Academic Achievement in Social Studies. Our teachers and students are to be commended for their dedication to teaching and learning.
This past Thursday during Social-Emotional Learning class, our students took part in the Cultural Party. We ended the day on Friday with our annual staff vs. student volleyball game. This is an event we look forward to each year as it brings us together as a community. Spirits were high and camaraderie was strong. Both events brought a sense of community bringing students and staff together as one Falcon family.
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is a process for helping children and adults develop fundamental skills for life effectiveness. SEL teaches the skills we all need to handle ourselves, our relationships, and our work effectively and ethically. These skills include recognizing and managing our emotions, developing caring and concern for others, establishing positive relationships, making responsible decisions, and handling challenging situations ethically and constructively.
The Gifted and Talented Club hosted the first annual Diffy Day on December 7th to celebrate Fulmore as one of the most diverse campuses in Austin ISD. Students wore different shoes and socks to promote their individuality and to come together as campus. We are all different. We are all falcons.
Our PTA does it again! On Thursday it was a fantastic breakfast sponsored by Whataburger, Jo’s Coffee, Panera Bread, and PTA Members. We appreciate how this brings together our staff in such a festive and fun manner.
If you haven’t been following Fulmore Falcons on Twitter, please make it one of your New Year’s Resolutions. We can be found on Twitter @FulmoreFalcons. We share successes, events, and day-to-day life at Fulmore Middle School.
Reminder that on Tuesday, January 19th, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. we will have our annual, Evening of Wonder, that features our magnet program for prospective students. Please encourage anyone who might be interested in Fulmore to attend this amazing event. It is the perfect opportunity for families to learn about Fulmore, meet teachers, students, parents, visit classrooms, and see the many different offerings provided at Fulmore Middle School. If you are interested and able to participate in this event please contact Ms. Quintanilla at 512.841.4916.
We wish you a restful and peaceful Holiday Season. Encourage your child to read at least 30 minutes each day to keep her/him in a frame of mind for learning. The holiday season is a great time to give a gift that will last forever…a book. As always, thank you for your ongoing support of the Fulmore Middle School teachers and staff. You are appreciated. We look forward to seeing your child in the New Year!

Students will receive a copy of their second semester schedule on their first day back to school, after the winter break (January 5th 2016)! If your child is interested in receiving a schedule change, please have them pick up a neon pink ‘Schedule Change Request Form” from outside of the counseling office. Please have them list the class they would like to change, a few classes they may be interested in adding, and then have both the teacher (of the course they would like to drop) and a parent sign the form. All forms will be accepted in the counseling office until Friday, January 15, 2016. Please keep in mind that we try to keep changes in core classes (Math, ELA, Science and Social Studies) to a minimum, and encourage parents to reach out to teachers and/or the grade level counselor if they are having a concern with their child or a particular teacher!
Following the Winter Break, The Counseling Department will be starting a new series of small groups that focus on relationships, grades, stress, and individual growth. Participants will not only learn from the group, but act as support for one another as they navigate topics that are most relevant to Middle Schoolers. If you feel that your child would benefit from a group like this, please contact your child’s grade level counselor!
CONGRATS to Ms. Michelson’s SEL class, Mr. Kennedy’s SEL class, and Ms. Mitchell’s SEL class on being the winners of the Box Top Competition!! We will have a special treat for Ms. Michelson’s class, who was the overall school winner, with over 315 Box Tops!!!!! Please continue to collect Box Tops over the holidays- we will be starting a second round of collection in January!! The holidays are often surrounded with foods that may have Box Tops, and it is an awesome time to ask friends and family to help us collect, as well! We are well on our way to earning a full-body falcon costume!!
