NHS Student Services
November 2022 Newsletter
From the North High Student Services Department:
First quarter grades are a mid-semester progress report of where a student is at for the semester. First quarter and second quarter grades are averaged together to calculate the semester grade - so each quarter equally impacts the semester grade. It is the semester grade that determines if credit is earned in the class, and the semester grade is the only grade that is posted on a student's transcript (not the quarter grades). If a student is failing a class(es) for the first quarter then they really need to improve their grade for the second quarter to still have a chance to pass the class for the semester and earn the credit for the class. If you have any questions about a failing or sub-standard grade and what it may take to improve the grade for the semester then we would highly encourage you to contact the teacher(s) of the class(es) in question. Other general credit questions can also be directed towards the counselors.
North has five counselors, each with a caseload of 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. There is also a School Social Worker, School Psychologist, Reading Specialist and a Transition Specialist located within the Student Services Office. Please feel free to contact us any time with your questions or concerns.

There are additional community service opportunities this winter with the Youth Basketball Program. Help is needed on weekends for league games (typically on Saturdays) and any tournaments that may be held (typically on Sundays). All league games and tournaments are held here at North High School. Help is typically needed at the admissions tables, scoring tables, and possibly in the concession stand. This is a fun and easy way for high school students to get some community service hours during the late fall and winter months. Intern Counselor At North
My name is Maddie Ruckdashel and I am the school counseling intern at North High for the fall semester. I graduated from New London High School in 2017. This is my third year in the Master's of Counseling Program at Lakeland University. I also did my undergraduate degree at Lakeland University and received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology. While at Lakeland I participated on the women's wrestling team and was a 2020 All-American. The first two years of my graduate school I was the graduate assistant coach for the Lakeland women's wrestling team. This coming season I will be coaching girl's wrestling at the middle and high school in Freedom, WI. I am excited to be gaining valuable experience while at North High School!
