Welcome Mr. Pritchard
We'd like to give a warm welcome to our School Counseling Intern from Sage College, Mr. Graham Pritchard! Throughout the second semester, Mr. Pritchard will be working along side Mrs. O'Brien and Mrs. Rust in Student Services. He looks forward to meeting with many of our students and families. Information for Students in Grades 9-12
Med Quest Camp is coming to the Albany Medical Center!
This program is designed to introduce high school students to careers in healthcare. Through hands-on activities in an actual health care setting, students will gain valuable experience in the healthcare field. There is a two-step process for admission, including a prescreening of candidates and an application process. This program is open to students entering 11th or 12th grade in the Fall of 2020 and will run from July 6th - July 10th. More information, as well as the prescreening application, can be found online. Deadline for prescreening applications is April 1, 2020.
Digital Arts, Film, and Animation Competition - RIT
Students who enter this contest must be deaf or hard of hearing, in grades 9-12, and complete the application information found online. Deadline: March 15, 2020
Constitutional Scholars Program Essay Contest
Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to submit an essay, a performance video, graphic art, or poems/short stories on the origin of some aspect of the U.S. Constitution, specifically one of the nineteen topics listed on the contest website. More information can be found online. Deadline: March 31, 2020
Boston University Summer Journalism Institute
This is an opportunity for students ages 15-18 to expand their skills, experience college life and explore Boston. Each day showcases what it is like to work in the news field, live on campus and make new friends from all over the country. There are three sessions to choose from and more information can be found online.

Academic Summer Programs
Gettysburg College is excited to offer several opportunities for high school JUNIORS and SOPHOMORES to attend an academic campus over the summer months. Subjects include psychology, creative writing, or information technology.
Senior Information
Scholarship opportunities are starting to come in! Be sure to check the scholarship bin in Student Services. You may also access a listing of the scholarships on the district website. Below is a list of the most recent scholarships that have become available:
- Adirondack School Counseling Association Scholarship: eligible applicants must be planning to attend a 4-year college or university and plan to study human services, psychology, or a related "helping" field. Students must also demonstrate a record of serving others in a humanitarian way. Applications are available in Student Services. Deadline: April 24, 2020
- The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York Scholarship (FASNY): eligible applicants must be a senior planning to enroll in an accredited technical post-secondary school; be a member in good standing with FASNY or have a parent/legal guardian who is a member; serve as a Junior firefighter, Explorer Scout or Ram, volunteer firefighter, or EMS volunteer.; must demonstrate a commitment to both volunteer emergency service and the community. Deadline: March 15, 2020
- First New York Federal Credit Union: eligible applicants must be a member of First New York Federal Credit Union. Applicants must complete an essay of 250 words or less describing what motivates them to succeed and why. Additionally, applicants must submit a completed and signed application form, a letter of reference, high school transcript, and resume. First New York Federal Credit Union will be offering four $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school students. Application deadline: March 6, 2020
- New York Farm Bureau: scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors preparing for a career in some way connected to the diverse agricultural industry. Applicants must live or work on a farm or be involved with agriculture through another venue. Farm Bureau membership is required. Deadline: March 1, 2020
- Saratoga County Educational Local 864 - CSEA Local Scholarship: three scholarship opportunities are available for children of employees represented by Local 864. Scholarship selection will be based on: an essay, school activities, academic record, outside work/community service, and personal goals. Applications are available in Student Services. Deadline: March 27, 2020
- YMCA Earth Service Award: eligible applicants must be in grades 10-12 and reside in Warren, Washington, Albany, Rensselaer or Saratoga County. Selection criteria includes: the contribution a student has made to the environment, leadership skills that were demonstrated, and the extent to which the student has encouraged others to understand/appreciate the environment. Applications can be found in Student Services. Deadline: April 1, 2020
- Youth2Youth Helping Youth Community Service Incentive Award: applicants must submit an application, along with an essay on how community service has played a role in your life and how your volunteer actions have shaped your life. The essay should also include a "community service memory" that was significant and why. Additional application requirements can be found on the application. Please stop by Student Services to pick up an application. Deadline: March 2, 2020
2020 Adirondack Paralegal Association Scholarship: Applicants seeking this $500.00 scholarship must submit a completed application, two letters of recommendation, a current official transcript, and a short essay of no more than 1,000 words as detailed in the application. The applicant is NOT required to be entering the legal field to apply for this scholarship. It is open to all students attending their first year college regardless of major or location of college. Applications are available in Student Services. Deadline: March 9, 2020.
- NYSUT Retiree Council 10 Scholarship: Eligible applicants must be graduating seniors pursuing a degree in education at either a two-year college transfer program or a four-year college. The applying student will complete a scholarship application, respond to two essay questions, and submit two letters of recommendation. Applications are available in Student Services. Deadline: March 20, 2020.
- Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. 2020 Scholar Incentive/Merit Award: Eligible applicants for this scholarship must come from a traditionally underrepresented group in higher education, live in the capital region, have a C+ (75%) or higher grade point average, be pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited institution, be determined to "be in need of financial assistance," and demonstrate the ability and potential to succeed. Applicants must submit a completed application, two letters of recommendation, and an official transcript. The application must be postmarked by March, 20th, 2020. Applications are available in Student Services, as well as online.

Junior Information
SAT & ACT Information!
Register for Schuylerville's School Day SAT!
On March 25th we will be administering the SAT to interested juniors, starting at 8am. To sign up for this test, please see Mrs. Lyon in Student Services. The cost is $50 without the essay and $65 with the essay. For students who receive free or reduced lunch, the fees are $8 without the essay and $15 with the essay.
The SAT and the ACT will also be offered on the following (Saturday) national testing dates. The cost of the SAT without the essay is $47.50; the cost of the SAT with the essay is $64.50. The ACT has a basic fee of $52.00 with an optional writing test (cost with writing is $68.00). If the cost of these tests presents a hardship, you may be eligible for a fee waiver. Please check with Mrs. Rust or Mrs. O'Brien.

Boys State & Girls State!!
If you are interested in being considered for Boys State or Girls State, please see Mrs. O'Brien or Mrs. Rust by Friday, January 17th. We can provide more details on an individual basis; however, please find more information online for Boys State and Girls State. There is a selection process our school must follow, so please don't complete any applications or contact any American Legion Post at this time.
New Visions Programs
If you are interested in exploring a one year pre-college program in the field of Engineering or Health Careers Exploration, please see your counselor immediately. The New Visions programs offer an academically rigorous program for the college bound senior. Representatives from each program will be visiting Schuylerville High School to speak with interested students on the following dates:

Sophomore Information
Interested in a Career & Technical Education Program at BOCES?
- Field Trip: We are still accepting permission slips for the visitation day at the CTE BOCES Center on January 31st. Permission slips were mailed home and must be turned in to reserve your spot on the field trip. Spots are limited to the first 40 students who turn in a permission slip. Please stop by Student Services to turn in your completed permission slip or if you need another copy!
- Open House: Join the Myers Center for an OPEN HOUSE on Tuesday, January 28th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The Open House will be held at 15 Henning Road Sarartoga Springs, NY. Students and families will be able to speak with CTE instructors and learn about the variety of hands on programs offered!
Parent Night Reminder!
Please join Mrs. O'Brien and Mrs. Rust as we start to navigate through the college search and application process. We will complete a mock College Search through the use of College Board's Big Future. Topics of conversation will include graduation requirements, diploma options, scheduling timeline, future elective options as well as what colleges look for in a potential applicant. We have a lot of information to share, so please mark this date on your calendar - Thursday, January 16th at 6pm in the High School Libraray!
Freshman Information
After our February break, we will begin our parent/counselor/student scheduling meetings. During this meeting, we will review your progress in 9th grade, discuss graduation requirements, and select courses for your 10th grade year! Please take a look at our course offerings on the District Website to start brainstorming the courses you'd like to take in 10th grade! If the selected meeting time does not work for your parent/guardian, please have them contact Student Services to reschedule for a more convenient time. We look forward to meeting with you soon!
