We support and foster a positive community of successful, life-long learners and leaders by meeting the needs of every individual while challenging each one to reach full potential.
Leader in Me Fidelity Assessment
As part of the campus Leader in Me initiative, I am interested in collecting data to assess where we are at in our journey.
The Implementation Fidelity Assessment will enable the Lighthouse Team to track our school's (1) implementation fidelity to The Leader in Me process and (2) measureable results in the areas of leadership, culture, and academics each year.
If you have not already done so, please click here no later than Wednesday, September 16, 2015.

PDAS Teacher Self-Report Part I Due
Teacher Self Reports are due in Eduphoria by Monday, September 14th. Teachers need to click on SUBMIT for admin to view their TSR. And, if everybody waits until Monday, I can guarantee Eduphoria will crash and Karin Stanley will need to be hooked up to oxygen! :)
LOTs Login Information
The LOTs Teachers need the student login cards for your classroom. Although most 3-5 students know their logins, we have a few that simply do not recall them, are adjusting to the "new" login, or are new students. The LOTs Teachers have NOT received cards from the following:
K-missing 1 classroom
1-missing 1 classroom
2-missing 1 classroom
3-missing 2 classrooms
4-missing 4 classrooms
5-missing 3 classrooms
Leadership Quote--September
“Wherever you go, go with all of your heart.” – Confucius
Caught Being a Leader
Our outstanding Bilingual Department did an amazing job the first day of school. More than half of our dual students were missing bus tags. We did not have any information on their bus numbers. However, our wonderful Marcela Csitkovits, Aida Martinez, and Rosaura Englehart all teamed together to make phone calls and get those tags created, laminated and delivered to the classrooms. What awesome teamwork!!
Leader in Me Implementation
The objective of Week 4 is to continue to give leadership an active role in the class. Empower students to make choices and celebrate successes together! Use leadership language throughout the day.
Guide students through the Habit 3 section of The Leader in Me Activity Guide. Read the Habit 3 story from The 7 Habits of Happy Kids.
Scaffold goal setting. Students should create one personal goal and one academic goal that will be revisited monthly. Younger students may begin by circling one picture from several choices. Older students may begin by completing the flowing sentence, I will _____ by _____. Instruct students to write their goals in a Leadership Notebook.

Five Keys to Motivating Struggling Learners
The fourth key to motivating struggling learners is to hold high expectations for each student. The challenge is that we sometimes have hidden low expectations for certain students. Our affective tone and academic content interactions are important. Which do you use with your struggling students?
Affective Tone
- more eye contact
- smile more
- more physical contact
- less distance from student's seat
- engage in more playful or light dialogue
- little use of comfort talk (That's ok, you can be good at other things.)
Academic Content Interactions
- call on more often
- provide more wait time
- ask more challenging questions
- ask more specific questions
- delve into answers more deeply
