Coker Mission--Every Child, Every Day

We support and foster a positive community of successful, life-long learners and leaders by meeting the needs of every individual while challenging each one to reach full potential.

Leader in Me Fidelity Assessment

As part of the campus Leader in Me initiative, I am interested in collecting data to assess where we are at in our journey.

The Implementation Fidelity Assessment will enable the Lighthouse Team to track our school's (1) implementation fidelity to The Leader in Me process and (2) measureable results in the areas of leadership, culture, and academics each year.

If you have not already done so, please click here no later than Wednesday, September 16, 2015.

PTA Membership

We are only 8 staff members away from earning the Golden Apple Award this school year. This award is earned when a PTA recruits and reports 100% of school faculty as members by the deadline. Texas PTA's definition of faculty is: principals, assistant principals, teachers, counselors, and aides employed at the campus full-time. Please help out our phenomenal PTA by submitting your membership dues of $5.50 or less to show your support.

PDAS Teacher Self-Report Part I Due

Teacher Self Reports are due in Eduphoria by Monday, September 14th. Teachers need to click on SUBMIT for admin to view their TSR. And, if everybody waits until Monday, I can guarantee Eduphoria will crash and Karin Stanley will need to be hooked up to oxygen! :)

The LOTs Teachers need the student login cards for your classroom. Although most 3-5 students know their logins, we have a few that simply do not recall them, are adjusting to the "new" login, or are new students. The LOTs Teachers have NOT received cards from the following:

Five Keys to Motivating Struggling Learners

The fourth key to motivating struggling learners is to hold high expectations for each student. The challenge is that we sometimes have hidden low expectations for certain students. Our affective tone and academic content interactions are important. Which do you use with your struggling students?

Affective Tone

  • more eye contact
  • smile more
  • more physical contact
  • less distance from student's seat
  • engage in more playful or light dialogue
  • little use of comfort talk (That's ok, you can be good at other things.)

Academic Content Interactions

  • call on more often
  • provide more wait time
  • ask more challenging questions
  • ask more specific questions
  • delve into answers more deeply
