School attendance and punctuality are important factors in student academic, social, and emotional progress. Attendance procedures are noted below and can be found on the district website. Our goal is to create a safe, connected school environment through partnering with families to promote student success.
When you must keep your child home from school, call the school office by 9:00am to report the absence. This allows the school personnel to be informed as to your child’s recovery progress and helps to ensure your child’s safety.
While we encourage and expect regular attendance, please keep your child home if she/he has:
- Enlarged or Swollen Glands
- Sore Throat
- Inflamed or Infected Eyes
- Persistent or Deep Cough
- Lice – live bugs
Children must be fever-free (no more than 100 degrees) without medication for 24 hours. More information about Health Attendance Policy can be found here.
Attendance will be marked as excused or unexcused based on parent contact and reasons for absences. Excused absences are defined in board policy as illness, severe illness and/or injury; religious observances; or visits with a parent or legal guardian who is an active duty member of the military who has been called to duty for, is on leave from, or is immediately returned from deployment to a combat zone or combat support posting, with permission of the superintendent or designee. Medical absences require a doctor’s excuse.
Notifications will be mailed home when a child has been absent 5 days, 7 days and again at 10 days. School Board Policy and City Ordinance, Section 15-96, require schools to notify the police department for investigation when absences reach ten or more.
All transportation changes should be submitted in writing prior to 2:30. This ensures each child departs safely through the correct mode of transportation. You may email the office at firstname.lastname@example.org or send a note.
Gladden Elementary, along with the Belton School District, supports quality character
education. We recognize the importance of educating the whole child and fostering strong social and emotional sense in addition to providing a rigorous academic curriculum. As part of our character education program, each month we focus on one of the ten Pirate Principles.
This year we have discussed the following principles: tolerance, self-discipline, and responsibility. Pirate Principles are taught during class meetings, assemblies, family and buddy activities.

PTA is GREAT!
The first quarter is over and PTA has been hard at work planning events for the school year. It is so important that we have parent involvement. Your memberships, fundraiser participation, and volunteering efforts are what keep us going!
What does PTA do?
PTA plans or funds:
- Field trips, parties and other events
- Popcorn Fridays (fresh popcorn for students and staff)
- Classroom aid
- Holiday help for Gladden families
Please join us for our monthly meetings on the first Monday of the month at 6:00 pm in the library. All are welcome!
Fill out our membership form and tell us why you think PTA is great! The class with the highest membership sign ups in K-2 and 3-4 will get a classroom pizza party! We look forward to working with you!
If you have any questions please contact PTA President Stephanie Mason at email@example.com.
