Message from the Principal:
It was so nice to see many of you at our Curriculum Night events this week! Fostering a partnership between home and school allows for more accountability and ultimately a better educational experience for our kids. If you were unable to attend, I would encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher and request the information that was reviewed.
As principal, the safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance to me. Whenever there is change in leadership, an opportunity to reflect and analyze current practices is natural. With that in mind, please consider the following procedures:
- At parent pick up and drop off, I am concerned about the number of students/parents crossing from the parking area to the school. There is a crosswalk near the office doors that is staffed with a crossing guard before and after school. I know it can be an inconvenience to walk down there, however, I am concerned about the number of people crossing and the example we are setting for our students.
- Again, please have your ID ready if you plan to pick up your student from the front office. This is a new procedure that I continue to review with the front office staff.
It is my job to serve the parents, students and staff of Settler's Point. If there is anything I can do to help, please feel free to reach out to me.

What's Going on In Third Grade?
Third Grade has had a busy start to the year. We have been working very hard on
establishing rules, routines, and procedures. During these first few weeks, students will
take their initial STAR test. This data is used in determining AR levels for students when
choosing books that are “just right”. Students have learned the 5 finger rule also. They
are taught that if there are more than 5 words on a page that they are unable to read,
then that is an indicator the book is probably too difficult and they need to choose
another book to read. In math, we have introduced multiplication and are learning that it
is “repeated addition”. If you have not signed up to receive messages from your child’s
teacher through Remind, please do so using the information that was sent home at
Open House. You may contact your child’s teacher if you need that information sent
home. We are looking forward to a productive year!
