Anne Wien Announcements
School Newsletter for Week of January 11, 2021
Dear Anne Wien Elementary Families,
All four learning choices for your River Otter will begin next Tuesday, January 19:
1. In-Person learning here at Anne Wien Elementary
2. Remote Learning from home by "Zooming" in with Anne Wien teachers
3. eLearning from home with a District teacher on your own schedule (no "live" classes)
4. Home school options, such as our District's B.E.S.T. program
To start attending school here at Anne Wien, you must have completed a School Choice Survey and have verified with an Anne Wien staff member (your teacher and/or the office) that your child's name is on a class list. Students will not be allowed to attend in person on Tuesday, January 19, if we don't have your child on a class list ahead of time due to our requirement to have classrooms as safe as possible with safety mitigation plans in place throughout the building. Thank you for letting us know your choice and for carefully reading through all of the information in this newsletter so that we can have as safe and successful a re-opening as possible.
Sincerely,
Michael Angaiak
Principal, Anne Wien Elementary

Dear Anne Wien Families,
I am the school nurse at Anne Wien Elementary. I am happy that your student has been able to return to in-person learning! This year my biggest goal is to keep all students safe and healthy while in school. There have been many changes to the district health and illness protocols and I ask that you please review them prior to sending your student to school each day. I have included the Daily Covid-19 Screening Tool that should be viewed each day. Also, please review the Daily Decision Tree on the district website which goes over protocols for traveling out of state, close contacts, and illness.
If your student develops ANY signs of illness noted on the Covid-19 Screening Tool, they should stay home for 10 days, these symptoms can include:
•Fever/ Chills
•New loss of taste or smell
•Cough
•Sore throat
•Fatigue
•Nausea or vomiting
•Muscle or body aches
•Diarrhea
•Headache
•Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
If your student develops any of the above symptoms while at school, they will be isolated from other children in the nurse's office and parents will be contacted for immediate pickup and your student must remain home for 10 days (see “Covid-19 Daily Decision Tree” on the district website for more information).
As you know, masks are required for all in-person students. Please ensure that your student is coming to school with a cloth or disposable face mask. It would also be good practice to bring an extra mask because we know they are very prone to getting dirty! Also, please make sure your students' mask fits properly and stays on their nose and mouth without falling. You can find kid size cloth face masks at almost every store now, including the grocery! The CDC states gaiters can now be worn as long as they have two layers or are folded to make two layers. We enjoy having your student in school and want to keep them safe! I’ve included some general hygiene tips below:
Winter is here!
Now that our colder temps have arrived please make sure your student has all of their winter gear. They are required to wear a face-covering while outside as well but this can include a balaclava or neck gaiter, as long as it can remain over their nose and mouth. We are already seeing masks becoming wet after playing outside. A wet mask can make it hard to breathe through and are less effective than dry ones. Your student can change into their “winter mask” before going outside and then put their regular face mask back on while indoors.
Mask Hygiene:
- Masks should be washed daily with hot soap and water or with your laundry.
- Disposable masks should be thrown away daily
- Please note: An unwashed mask can harbor bacteria that will do more harm than good when worn continuously.

I look forward to seeing your student in school and please feel free to reach out to me with any questions!
