Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 4th February 2022
Candlemas Creations
Candlemas By Year 5
This week, children from Year 5 went to the Cathedral to support the preparations for Candlemas. Candlemas marks the ritual presentation of the baby Jesus to God in the Temple at Jerusalem. The Gospel of Luke says that Jesus was met by Anna and Simeon. Simeon held the baby Jesus and called him a Light to the World.
The children were asked to create patterns with lights around the font, pulpit and in one of the side chapels. The children worked together on their designs which looked fantastic when they were lit at the service. Well done Year 5.
School Update
COVID Update
Covid cases amongst children have stabilised in school, however, we have continued to face a number of challenges due to staffing issues. We are continuing to work with local agencies and internal staff to ensure that classes remain open and children receive face to face learning.
Where there are cases the school is continuing to notify close contacts in the first instance, if cases do escalate we will of course ask whole classes to daily LFD for the appropriate amount of time.
Phones and Watches
Please can we remind parents that if older children are sent with mobile phones into school, as they will be walking home on their own, for safeguarding reasons they must be handed to the class teacher at the start of the day. We do not allow children to have mobile phones on their person during school time. We have noted that increasing numbers of children are wearing smart watches. We do ask that watches that connect to a mobile or take photographs are not worn in school.
Thank you so much for your continued support.
Kind regards

Designing roman Towns in Year 3
Year 3 have been working in teams to recreate a map of a typical Roman town. They are using clues to help them identify what and where the significant buildings were, what the layout of the roads looked like, where the main gates would have been, what the town defences might have looked like and what things would have been outside of the town walls. We are sure they will look amazing when they are finished.
Do you think there are still people in the Garden of Eden?
In Friday's worship Starla and Gracie asked each class about their thoughts.
Year 2
'No because Adam and Eve didn't make babies before they were thrown out of the garden.'
'God might still be living there.'
Year 6
'No because until the world gets rid of sin man can't go back.'
'Yes, because the whole world is God's garden.'
Year 1
'We think that the garden is in Africa.'
Year 4
'The garden could be up in heaven and the people who are in heaven live there.'
Year 3
'We think the animals are still in the garden of Eden as they were not thrown out. But people are not there.'

Community News
Dear School leaders, Governors, Teachers, Pupils and Families
Ripon Together is a not-for-profit partnership organisation which brings people together to work on projects and activities to make the city of Ripon a friendly and thriving place to live and a welcoming place to visit. For more details please see the website, www.ripontogether.com
The Summer of Play 2021 was an idea to help children, after COVID lockdowns, see and try out some activities which they may have missed out on. And for organisations and clubs to present themselves to those children and families.
We are now formulating plans for 2022 and we enclose a link to a short survey where we would like a little help from you. We want to offer things that are relevant, useful and fun for children, young people and families, connecting organisations and showing what is available for them around Ripon.
The events will take place in August, when the schools are closed and we don’t expect schools to be directly involved, we just want views, advice and information on how best to offer something good.
If there is anyone in your organisation who could give us their ideas, then please ask them to complete the survey. The more information we have the better that we can prepare.
Any questions or queries can be emailed to info@ripontogether.com or call David Ingham 07775 731276.
Yours sincerely
Directors of Ripon Together.
