AVID I am sure you have heard our staff and scholars talking about AVID and you may be asking yourself what it is and why we place such a big focus on it. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. At SCS we started learning about AVID strategies approximately 5 years ago and we are proud to report that AVID strategies are taking place in each and every classroom. The AVID program is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. We understand that college may not be for everyone but we are giving all students the opportunity and skills they need for college and career. The program places special emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills. Talk to your children about how they are becoming an AVID scholar. | BECOME A VOLUNTEERDo you want to go with your child on a field trip this year? Or do you want to help in a classroom or with a school activity? Before taking part in a volunteer activity such as a field trip, applicants must complete a criminal background check. Background checks are good for several years. To access the online volunteer application, click here or go to our district website at www.eaglepnt.k12.or.us. Click on Parents & Students and then Volunteer Information. Once you have completed the online application, it takes approximately 48 hours to process. Complete the process now so that you are ready for upcoming field trips. | ABSENCES, EARLY PICKUP, PLAN CHANGESAbsences: If your student will be absent, please call the office’s 24-hour absence line at 541-830-6220, and let us know.
