Poem
I am a member of the team, and i rely on the team i defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the champion. -Mia Hamm
Poem meaning
Although the poem is about a soccer team it’s words can still be applied to a society. The poem can be interpreted as sending the message of “putting a team ahead of yourself because the team is more important”. This message shows what sacrifice is at its core: putting something else above you at your own cost.

Pictures
The picture on the left shows WWII axis leaders standing before a crowd of people. They had ruled their countries with complete dominance and control and forced everyone to swear complete loyalty to them their parties. In the story Soldier X Eric breaks his loyalty to these dictators so that he can live a more better, righteous life. The picture in the middle is of a group of german soldiers who are seemingly pleased with something. This relates to Soldier X because in the beginning Eric is in a similar situation: innocently talking with friends and new people, blissfully unaware of what what's to come. Later in the book Eric gives up his friends in favor of a life with Tamara and without the war. The picture on the right shows a group of german war refugees running from battle. This relates because it shows that in a situation like WWII sacrifices must be made. Those people had to give up their homes for safety.

Sacrificing for others in 172 hours on the moon
It's impossible to know what Arland was thinking as he gave his live saver away over and over again, but it doesn't seem farfetched to say that Arlands motive to give his life away was the safety, or wellbeing, of others. A novel that illustrates this sort of sacrifice is 172 hours on the moon by Johan harstad. The novel follows three characters: Mia Midori and Antoine. These three have entered a contest to win a trip to the moon base darlah 2 for 172 hours. The three of them think that the trip will be safe and harmless. Little do they know that the trip would be their last. On the moon they discover alien creatures dubbed “Doppelgangers”. They have only one goal: create as much danger as they possible can for their victim. As the name suggests they take on the appearance of their victim, making it hard to tell who's real and who's a doppelganger. As the story continues the doppelgangers damage equipment and kill the crew members one by one until only Mia and Midori are left alive. Their informed of another moon base: Darlah 1. Darlah 1 contains an escape hatch. The dopplegangers damaged darlah 2s escape hatch, leaving their only option the hatch in darlah 1. On the trip to darlah 1 the dopplegangers follow them. During the trek Midori falls while running up a hill. Because of the Midoris space suit she is unable to stand up again. Mia, despite the obvious danger, goes back to save Midori immediately “She made up her mind quickly. Mia ran back towards Midori and pulled her up the last hill and down the incline.”. Mia saved Midori's life without any hesitation Even though she clearly knew of the dangers, because she cared for others safety naturally.
