Stone Academy
The Stone Academy Battle of the Books Club began meeting on Fridays in October to fit the school's new club calendar. Since the practice questions were not available until December, Mrs. Littlejohn used this as an opportunity to offer group projects to club members to promote the titles on the BOB reading list. One group planned an made a banner to submit to the SCASL banner contest. With the help of USC intern Jill Tyner, two groups created commercials using GoAnimate.com. Another group created a trailer with all ten titles using iMovie. The projects became so appealing that practice time with the questions was moved to lunch time. On February 21 and 28, the BOB club hosted an Open House to invite other 4th and 5th grade Friday Clubs to see their presentations. The audience was impressed and responded enthusiastically to the comedy in the animated commercials. The Open House served as a promotional tool for the club as well as the books.
