The Week Ahead
I drove by the Cunniff this morning and the progress they continue to make on the building is truly amazing and notable each week.
On Tuesday the SignUpGenius link will open so that parents and guardians can reserve a time to meet with teachers regarding student progress. This is an important conference where you will hear about how your students is doing with regard to: classroom and community skills, approaches to learning, content (reading, writing, phonics, math) and goals moving forward.
As a reminder, elementary conferences will take place on:
- Monday 11/30: 1:40 - 2:30 PM
- Tuesday 12/1 1:40 - 2:30 and 5:00 - 7:00 PM
- Wednesday 12/2 1:40 - 3:00 PM
- Thursday 12/3 1:40 - 2:30 and 6:00 - 8:00 PM
As you are aware, morning meeting and closing circle are two points during the school day where teachers take attendance that is recorded in PowerSchool. These two components of the Responsive Classroom curriculum are also opportunities where teachers gather students to build attitudes towards school and work, foster community, set goals, stop to reflect, and celebrate success.
The Cunniff faculty has made a commitment to the following Professional Practice goal:
By integrating lessons, literature, and life experiences, Cunniff faculty will support all students in developing the foundational knowledge and skills needed to counter racism, prejudice, and discrimination in their daily lives and during the course of the school year.
The goal will include the following action steps:
*Set aside time at faculty meetings to create a timeline for action steps;
*Build a collection of resources and text for students and faculty;
*Design lessons (all grade levels) that develop an understanding of racism;
*Support strategies (SEL) that develop the knowledge and foundational skills needed to counter racism;
*Recruit a parent liaison who will provide updates to families at the monthly PTO meeting and SSC meeting;
*Begin to formulate plans for a school-based equity team;
*Plan school-wide enrichment events that support our overarching goal.
We would like to have parent representation in this planning. If you would like to part of this team, please send me an email.
