In Class...

*MATH: Students took their end of quarter assessment today (Friday). We reviewed areas we worked hard to master this quarter. Students have been specifically focusing on word problem strategies and missing addends this week.

*READING: In the weeks ahead, we are moving into small groups during Daily 5 and workshop times which are based on data collected during the first quarter. This means students will still be doing large and small group activities, but they will focus heavily on areas of reading needs for individual children. While some need letter, sound, and word focus, others may need comprehension or project-based practice to enhance connections with their reading. I am so excited to see this in action and meet the students where they are showing need.

*WRITING: Students worked on I, Me, and My to practice correct placement in sentences. We will continue practicing this in writing as well as capitalizing names of people and days/months in dates. Additionally, we are focusing on our weekly word wall words!

*CHARACTER: October = Responsibility. We are continuing our discussions on rights and responsibilities as well as extending this focus to being responsible for our actions.

i Posters

If your student still has not created and returned an iPoster, there is still time. Monday is our first day of Bunches, which is when we will be sharing iPosters, so they can still be sent in then. I love seeing the creativity and learning more about the students in our building.

If you have not already signed up for a conference, please follow this link. Any students who do not have a time slot on Monday will have a paper copy sent home.

S C I E N C E this week...

This week we wrapped our Insect explorations. Students chose a way to "create" an insect and Monday's science time was spent building a variety of "bugs."

Kiddos got creative with clay, toothpicks, pipecleaners, paperclips, and clothespins before sharing with Miss Wall and Mrs. Ryberg the parts of their insects. It was so cool to see the insects come to life and to see students sharing their knowledge and creativity. Currently, the insects are displayed outside of our classroom and should remain there for you to see during conferences.

In the next couple of weeks, we will be exploring plants and measurement with the help of some seasonal staples - PuMpKiNs! If you can help by sending in a pumpkin, please let me know by responding to this email. It doesn't have to be huge, but it does have to be a real one! Any help is appreciated, but not at all mandatory.
