KCS AVID STUDENT OF THE MONTH FOR DECEMBER
Our December KCS AVID Student of the Month was Nathan Lanning, a sophomore from Career Magnet Academy @PSCC. Nathan exemplifies the AVID program standards and strives to improve his performance in AVID and all of his academic classes every single day. Nathan demonstrates individual determination and goes above and beyond expectations. Nathan attributes his success in all classes with a simple statement, "you show up and just do your best." These are excellent words to live by!
KCS AVID STUDENT OF THE MONTH FOR JANUARY
Eric Goodpasture, a freshman at Karns High School, is our KCS Student of the Month for January. Eric is being recognized for not only his strong academic success in his first semester of high school but for his engagement while in class as well. He has embraced the AVID philosophy and shows his individual determination in all he does including his involvement in extra curricular activities. What a great start to his freshman year!
Important information for this semester
Happy New Year one and all!
I hope you enjoyed your break and time with your family. This semester is a busy one in the AVID world. Please let me know what kind of support your school needs as we plan for a fabulous second semester.
- KCS AVID PD day #2: The second day of AVID professional development will be held on February 1 at SSPDC.Remember, any staff member that attends both day 1 and day 2 of the AVID PD will have 12 hours of training recorded.
- That 12 hours qualifies them as AVID trained based on AVID National Center guidelines and counts towards the school's total of "AVID staff trained".
- Demographics Report: This report is to be submitted to Michelle Staal by February 8. She will then submit it to AVID National by their deadline of February 15. All coordinators have been shown the report PDF to know what information to gather. If schools need assistance in submitting this report online, please let Michelle know and she will be happy to help with that.
- AVID Certification Report (CCI): This semester during the monthly coordinator meetings, a focus will be gathering evidence for the AVID certification report (CCI) that is to be submitted to AVID National in May. Coordinators have built their google folders to house the schoolwide evidence needed. As a team we will continue to collaborate on what could be used as evidence. Both the official report and evidence from the schools will be due in May to Michelle. She will verify it and then send the official CCI to AVID National by their due date of May 24.
- Summer Institute Registration: If you are planning on sending a team to AVID Summer Institute, registration will open in February on myAVID. Michelle Staal will let coordinators know when this is available to your schools.
- Recruitment for next year: Recruitment of potential AVID students should start in March. As a district team, we are looking at ways of getting information to feeder schools both at the middle school and elementary school level. This will be a focus of our monthly coordinator meetings.
