Here's what's happening in MS this week!
May 13, 2019
Dear parents,
We are nearing the end of the fourth quarter. All late work and retakes must be finished by Friday, May 17.
ENGLISH
6th Grade: Students were given a take-home assessment to complete over their reading of Holes or Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. They should only need to spend a maximum of twenty minutes on this. Students will also have an in-class assessment recording their reading and thoughts on Monday. Next week, students will be gathering together their before and after work from throughout the year in order to create a before and after portfolio. They will also be finishing up their reading of the narrative text.
7th Grade: This is a busy week! On Monday students will take the test over chapter 12. On Wednesday they will be revising essays. On Friday they will be taking the grammar post test. All missing work must be turned in by May 17.
8th Grade: Same as 7th grade.
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We wrapped up our unit on Ancient Rome last week with a test. Students can do test corrections for a partial value of the points back. Those will be due by Wednesday. We are taking a geography break for a few days and will be working with maps to identify different places in the world before we get back into our study of Early World History. We will be moving on to how life changed in the Middle Ages.

MATH
6th Grade: 6th graders are learning how to write and solve one step equations. For example, if I purchased Mother’s Day flowers for $22.79 and I have $25 to spend, how much money do I have left over to spend on a card? We are learning how to write an equation using a variable to find missing amounts. We will have a quiz on Thursday covering one step equations. During exam time, the students will be taking the MStep math test. During Lancer Leap, we will continue with our normal math routine.
7th Grade: 7th graders have been learning how to organize statistical data in different graphs and then learning to analyze the results of the graphs. This week we will be having a quiz on Thursday. During exam time, the students will be taking the MStep math test. During Lancer Leap, we will continue with our normal math routine.
8th Grade: 8th graders took a test on Friday. Next week we will begin exploring the Pythagorean theorem and its applications to real life. For those that haven’t met their spring goal, we will be taking the NWEA math test during the exam time. During Lancer Leap, the 8th graders will continue our normal math routine.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: We have been exploring Newton’s Laws of Motion through a variety of activities like using balloon powered straws on string and cars on ramps. We will be continuing these activities next week.
7th Grade: We have just begun to study about space. We are starting with the relationship between the earth, moon, and sun. We will be comparing solstices and equinoxes as well as the phases of the moon.
8th Grade: We are working on weather and climate. Most students finished a severe weather research project and presented their information last Thursday. We will be finishing the year with climate and climate changes. The students will be having a final exam. They will receive their exam review sheet this week and the final exam will be the following week.
ART
Middle School: We will be finishing our silk scarf project which is a special one for them as this project is usually only for high school program. The students will get to do a quick little scratchboard project before the last project of the year which will be a still life.
SINCERELY,
The Middle School Team
