Shrek the Musical!
August 10, 11 at 7:30 pm
August 12 at 2:30 pm
Performed at Lee's Summit West High School
Musical Direction by Ginger Birch
Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears.
"Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek...." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand... and his name is Shrek.
Measure for Measure
Performed at MCC-Longview Cultural Arts Center
Directed by Shari Wassergord-Johnson
Measure for Measure will be set in small town Missouri during the mid-1930's Great Depression where vice currently runs rampant and the laws have been allowed to sleep for many years. The too-kind Vincentio is setting out on mysterious business and leaving the cares of state to his trusted minister Angelo, with instructions to enforce discipline as he sees fit.
It is considered Shakespeare's most urban play. Its people are of the city. It also deals with a lot of issues that we are currently discussing in American culture: abuse of power, incomplete justice, change of administrations, sexual harassment among others. This play is very much about justice and mercy, how to legislate with morality, restriction, ethics, but has a lot grey as well.
Not Another Christmas Letter! The Musical
Holiday Dinner Theatre
Performed at MCC-Longview Cultural Arts Center
Directed by Jamilee Mediak
A Kansas City Area Premiere! An original musical comedy unfolding in a series of comic and poignant vignettes with four actors bringing 46 characters to life celebrating everything that drives us crazy about Christmas . . . and why we love it anyway. Think of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change . . . for the holidays. From receiving that first obnoxious Christmas letter to taking the family picture, from dealing with in-laws, to facing unassembled gifts on Christmas Eve, NOT ANOTHER CHRISTMAS LETTER! shows why sometimes we want to sing “Wreck the halls!” and then why we’re wistful when Christmas is over.
Disaster! The Musical
Performed at MCC-Longview Cultural Arts Center
Directed by Nino Casisi
Another Kansas City Area Premiere! Disaster! is a new musical straight from Broadway, featuring some of the most unforgettable songs of the '70s. "Knock on Wood," "Hooked on a Feeling," "Sky High," "I Am Woman" and "Hot Stuff" are just a few of the scintillating hits in this hilarious musical comedy with a book by three-time Emmy Award nominee and SiriusXM Broadway host, Seth Rudetsky, and Jack Plotnick.
It's 1979, and New York's hottest A-listers are lining up for the opening of a floating casino and discotheque. Also attending is a faded disco star, a sexy nightclub singer with her eleven-year-old twins, a disaster expert, a feminist reporter, an older couple with a secret, a pair of young guys who are looking for ladies, an untrustworthy businessman and a nun with a gambling addiction. What begins as a night of boogie fever quickly changes to panic as the ship succumbs to multiple disasters, such as earthquakes, tidal waves and infernos. As the night turns into day, everyone struggles to survive and, quite possibly, repair the love that they've lost... or at least escape the killer rats.
The Butler Did It
Performed at MCC-Longview Cultural Arts Center
Directed by Mark Hamilton
This comedy parodies every English mystery play ever written: but it has a decidedly American flair. Miss Maple, a dowager with a reputation for "clever" weekend parties, invites a group of detective writers to eerie Ravenswood Manor on Turkey Island where they are to impersonate their fictional characters. The hostess has arranged all sorts of amusing incidents: a mysterious voice on the radio, a menacing face at the window, a mad killer on the loose. Who is that body in the wine cellar anyway? Why do little figurines keep toppling from the mantle? Then a real murder takes place, and Miss Maple is outraged. She offers an immense reward to the "detective" who can bring the killer to justice. And what an assortment of zany would-be sleuths! When they're not busy tripping over clues, they trip over each other! Laughs collide with thrills, and the climax is a real seat-grabber as the true killer is unmasked, and almost everyone turns out to be someone else!
