  • The teacher workday for Turrill teachers is from 8:40 – 3:45.
  • On Collaboration or SIP/Staff Meetings the teacher workday is 7:50 - 3:45.
  • 1-Hour Professional Development Days are from 7:40-8:40.

Turrill Elementary Spirit Bracket Challenge - in Honor of March Madness

Monday, Feb. 11th, 12pm

Our school is a contestant in this year’s Spirit Bracket Challenge sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings! Last year we finished in the top three in the state!!

For the first round we will be competing with other schools and our designated date is Monday, February 11, 2019.

Simply present the attached flyer to your server and 20% of their total bill will go back to our school. It’s as easy as that!

We will know if our school advances to Round #2 on February 14th!

Prospective YR Parent Open Houses

It's that time of year when we start marketing our school and program to prospective families leading up to Kindergarten Roundup. We've started contacting local preschools and daycares and will be dropping off over 300 YR brochures and applications.

In addition, we'll be hosting two Prospective Parent Open Houses in conjunction with the PTC on the following dates. Your involvement on those evenings to be in your classrooms to meet, greet and answer questions would be appreciated.

  • Wednesday, February 27th Prospective Family Open House 6:00-7:00
  • Tuesday, March 12th Prospective Family Open House 6:00-7:00

There will be a table in the entryway for a sign in sheet and handouts. PTC will be here to act as "tour guides" for the events.

Young Scholar Dates for February and March

Lower Elementary 2:00-2:30

Upper Elementary 2:45-3:15

  • All classes dismissed at the same time
  • Designated areas for classroom
  • Honoring the Reader (certificate and Hungry Howie's certificate), Author (certificate and Hungry Howie's certificate), Teacher selected Student of the Month (certificate and Pizza lunch with the principal)

Kids Heart Challenge (formerly known as Jump Rope for Heart)

Our PE teacher, Miss Eisinger, is coordinating Turrill's Kids Heart Challenge this year. If you are able, donations can be sent to your child's classroom teacher by Friday, February 8th.

Important Reminders for Tri 2 (Updated on 2-12-19):

"Data Day Prep" PLCs was supposed to take place the week of Feb 4th. These goals will become part of Data Days.
  • Goal: to identify Tier II and III students using MAP results and available classroom data such as DRA, conferring notes, guided reading progress, etc.
  • Goal: to identify current strengths and areas of focus for each student

Data Days are scheduled on February 11th - 13th.

  • Goal: update MTSS plan in Illuminate
  • Goal: use Illuminate to produce Student Assistance Plans/IRIPs for all identified Tier II and III students
  • Beth Rupprecht will be attending all Data Days for support in creating IRIPs (and assessment letters if possible)

Friday, February 15th: The end of Trimester and also K-5 Records Day.

REQUIRED by End of Day at 3:40:

  • Teachers should have Report Cards completed
  • and the following put into Illuminate:
    • Available math pre and/or post scores
    • Available writing pre and/or post scores
    • DRA/MLPP


  • Assessment Envelopes (not being sent home until Feb 27)
  • Second Trimester MTSS Documentation (not due until March 1)

Wednesday, February 27th:

  • Report Cards will be sent home electronically
Additionally, students will be sent home with hard copies of the following in the Assessment Envelopes:
  • Assessment letters (printed by teacher with directions being sent out by B. Rupprecht)
  • MAP report (printed by office)
  • IRIP letters if applicable

*Teachers will be responsible for "stuffing" the envelopes. Envelopes and MAP reports will be placed in mailboxes by Friday, Feb 15th.

Friday, March 1st: Second Trimester MTSS Documentation should be turned into the office including

  • MTSS Intervention Plan Cover sheets
  • MTSS Attendance sheets
  • Pre and Post data Numbers (not just what was used)

Building Collective Efficacy

  • Build instructional knowledge and skills
  • Create opportunities for teachers to collaboratively share skills and experience
  • Interpret results and provide actionable feedback on teachers' performance
  • Involve teachers in school decision making

Important Dates

Additional Professional Work Time Requirements

Seven hours of required professional development time shall be provided in accordance to the schedule that follows. Absences during this professional development time which are covered by sick leave or personal business leave shall be deducted from such accrued leave. Absences relating to student competitions (not practices) are allowable with prior approval of school business leave.

Remaining ONE HOUR PDs:

  • February 28 one-hour PD
  • March 14 one-hour PD
  • April 11 one-hour PD Elementary Only (K-5)
  • May 16 one-hour PD

Four additional hours of online professional development are required to be completed no later than June 1, 2019. Topics for online professional development sessions will be reviewed and approved by the evaluator no later than the conclusion of the Initial Teacher Evaluation Meeting in the fall. Topics for online PD must support building and/or District School Improvement Plans. Documentation of completion of online sessions must be submitted in June. Online professional development may not be completed during times assigned for student instruction, teacher collaboration, professional development, or SIP.

Emergency Situations:

1. Is there an ongoing emergency?

2. Does the student's behavior pose an imminent risk to student's or others' safety?

3. Does the situation require an immediate intervention?

Protocol for Summoning the Team:

  • Classroom teacher will contact the office by any means necessary
  • Secretary (or available office staff) will use Walkie Talkie to call for "CARE Team to Room (include teacher's name)

Team members:

  • All Level 2 CPI trained staff
  • Custodial Staff
  • Office Staff

Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT)

Purpose: called in emergency Medical situations.

Protocol for Summoning the Team:

  • Classroom teacher will contact the office by any means necessary
  • Secretary (or available office staff) will use Walkie Talkie to call for "MERT Team to Room (include teacher's name)
